SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Naval Medical Center San Diego has been selected as one of a handful of sites to participate in a coronavirus vaccine trial.The medical center will participate in phase III trials for vaccine candidate "AZD1222" developed by AstraZeneca, according to the Department of Defense. The trial is looking for participants who are at the greatest risk of the coronavirus, including:Working in an essential job, such as healthcare professions, emergency response personnel, grocery workers, meat-packing plants, restaurant staff, public transit, etc.;Living in densely populated residential environments;Living or working in congregated living facilities such as correctional facilities or nursing homes; and/orA member of a community that has been hardest hit by this pandemic, such as older persons, persons with underlying health conditions, and racial/ethnic groups such as African Americans, Latino, and Native American populations.RELATED: UCSD to participate in national COVID-19 clinical trial, looking for volunteersThe trial is part of Operation Warp Speed, which intends to have a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine and therapeutics by 2021. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed after a vehicle drove off the State Route 54 connector to northbound Interstate 5 in the South Bay.The crash was reported just after 3 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the vehicle to drive off the freeway connector.At least one person was killed in the crash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — North Park residents will celebrate this holiday season with an annual tradition intact — at least for one more year.For 56 years, the Toyland Parade has delighted crowds in North Park during the holiday season. But much like a parade balloon, financial troubles have loomed over organizers.Last year, the parade was briefly canceled after former-host Victoria House Corporation said it had lost support from sponsors. That donation and monetary support from the community helped 2018's parade continue as planned. NPMS has since taken the parade over, as well.But the parade is once again in trouble. Angela Landsberg, executive director with North Park Main Street, says support from the local Lions Club has saved 2019's parade, but 2020 is a different story."Our presenting sponsor North Park Lions Club have ensured that it's going to go off this year, but if we don't raise enough money this year to get us carried through our planning for next year, because these things take a long time to plan, then this will be the final year," Landsberg told 10News. The organization is asking for the community to once again step in to make sure the parade steps off on University Avenue next year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Protesters will be out in full force Saturday protesting the Crossroads of the West gun show in Del Mar.The protest is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Jimmy Durante Boulevard and Villa De La Valle.In years past, gun control advocates have targeted the show aiming to have the fairgrounds cancel the event.In 2016, a group of gun control advocates lobbied the Del Mar Fairgrounds board to end the shows saying the venue is inappropriate for a gun show."They glamorize the gun culture and help put more guns and more ammunition into the society. We don't believe the public facilities of the fairgrounds should be used for a purpose that is harmful to the public health and welfare," said Wayne Dernetz, of a group called Advocates for Gun Safety.Saturday’s gun show begins at 9 a.m. and will last until 5 p.m. 834
