LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting of a Black man by two deputies in South L.A.Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean told the Los Angeles Times that the deputies tried to stop the man for riding a bike in violation of vehicle codes. The man dropped his bike and ran, and the deputies chased him.Dean said the man punched a deputy in the face and dropped a bundle of clothes he was carrying. LONG BEACH (CNS) - A crane toppled over and struck a house in Long Beach Monday, injuring a homeowner who was hit by debris.Crews were working on overhead lines about 12:30 p.m. in the 300 block of 61st Street when the crane fell between two houses, striking the rear portion of one of the homes, according to Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.The injured homeowner, who had been working outside when the crane fell, was conscious and in stable condition when taken to a hospital, the captain said.The street was closed between Elm and DeForest avenues as crews worked to dismantle the crane. 613
LONDON (AP) — Anti-racism protesters in southwestern England have pulled down the statue of a slave trader and then dumped it into a harbor. The toppling of Edward Colston's statue was greeted with joyous scenes Sunday. Demonstrators attached ropes to the statue before pulling it down. Footage of the moments after the statue crashed to the ground saw hundreds, if not thousands, of local residents in ecstasy. The statue was then rolled into the nearby Bristol Harbor.
