LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Five-year-old NeeCee, a female snow leopard at the Louisville Zoo, has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans, the zoo announced in a release issued Friday. The Louisville Zoo is awaiting confirmatory results of the other two male snow leopards – Kimti and Meru. All three cats are doing well with very mild symptoms. The zoo said it continues to monitor their health closely and expects all three cats to recover. No other animals are showing symptoms at this time. The three snow leopards began exhibiting minor respiratory symptoms, including an occasional dry cough or wheeze, within the last two weeks. It is suspected that NeeCee acquired the infection from an asymptomatic staff member, despite precautions by the Zoo.“Fortunately, based on clinical cases in large cats at other zoos in the country to this point, SARS-CoV-2 infection does not appear to be life-threatening,” said Dr. Zoli Gyimesi, the zoo's senior staff veterinarian. “We will be closely monitoring the snow leopards for ongoing symptoms and resampling them to identify when they have cleared the infection.”In April 2020, four tigers and three lions were confirmed positive at the Bronx Zoo in New York. An additional three tigers at an AZA zoo in Tennessee were confirmed to be infected this fall. Just last week, the Barcelona Zoo announced four lions tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Iota struck Monday evening as a Category 4 hurricane, hitting nearly the same location as Hurricane Eta two weeks earlier. By early Wednesday, Iota had dissipated over El Salvador. Madison Wilson, an elementary school student in California, is raising money to donate multicultural crayons and books to local schools.Wilson learned that Crayola will be releasing a 24-pack of multicultural crayons called 'Colors of the World' in July and asked her mom if she could raise the funds to donate these crayons to her school.Wilson said she wanted children of all colors of skin to be able to accurately draw themselves in school.She also wants to use the money she raises to purchase multicultural books from local book stores and donate them as well.Wilson's deadline to raise the money is June 30. She had raised ,790 of her ,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Marine Corps helicopter crashed during a routine training mission over the El Centro area Tuesday afternoon, according to officials. The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing crashed around 2:35 p.m. Four crew members were aboard the aircraft.In a press release, the Marine Corps wrote that the status of all four crew members is, "presumed dead pending positive identification."The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. The names of the deceased will be withheld until family has been notified.  617
