A Brooklyn professional chef has made it her mission to feed the hungry in her community and help formerly incarcerated women get back on their feet.Sharon Richardson is the CEO of JustSoulCatering.Richardson and her team were preparing a feast on the sidewalk on Hicks Street Thursday.Richardson started her catering business after she got out of prison ten years ago.She created a nonprofit called Reentry Rocks, a culinary internship program that works directly with women just like her.Richardson said she only hires women coming out of prison.“The barriers are hard when you come home and you need a job. We give back food to the community. We know what’s it like to be without,” said Richardson, packing plates of food to go.Richardson decided to give food away, during the pandemic, preparing hundreds of meals for the hungry, twice a week. And, the donations started pouring in.She partners with Pastor Rodney Plummer of the Calvary Baptist Church of Red Hook.Over a hundred women have successfully gone through the Reentry Rocks program and dozens are now working with JustSoulCatering.WPIX's Monica Morales first reported this story. 1151

A husband and wife were found dead in Wisconsin Monday morning, and now a search is on for their missing 13-year-old daughter. The parents' bodies were found inside a Barron County, Wisc. after someone called 911 for help before 1 a.m.Deputies said they didn't find any weapons inside. Deputies said the teen, identified as 13-year-old Jayme Closs, could be in danger. No suspects have been named yet, and the FBI is involved in the investigation. An Amber Alert was issued in hopes of finding Closs. The 13-year-old may have been spotted in Miami, police tweeted late Monday night.  621

A gunman armed with a .38 revolver and a shotgun walked into Santa Fe High School in Texas on Friday and killed 10 people, according to authorities.Two days later, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is still touting a shotgun giveaway on his website.The entry period for the drawing began on May 1 -- before the shooting in Santa Fe -- and ends on May 31.Participants in the giveaway enter with a chance to win a 0 certificate that can be redeemed at a licensed gun dealer in Central Texas. Entrants must be Texas residents, per the governor's campaign website, and at least 18 years old. They must also be legally allowed to buy a pump-action shotgun.Abbott's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the shotgun giveaway.Abbott's campaign has also advertised the giveaway on other campaign materials.Vikki Goodwin, a candidate for the State House District 47 in west Travis County, was door-to-door campaigning on Saturday afternoon when she came across a door hanger advertising the giveaway."I was just astounded that he was giving away a shotgun," Goodwin told CNN. "The timing of it just seemed really bad."Goodwin notes she only saw the door hanger on one house and didn't know how long it had been there. "I thought, 'Surely they didn't just put this on the door and say they're giving away a shotgun right after 10 people have died as a result of another school shooting,'" she said.The Austin chapter of March for Our Lives -- the gun control initiative started by students in Parkland, Florida, after their own school shooting -- blasted the governor on Twitter for the giveaway. Abbott is doing,"Jack Kappelman, a high school senior and an organizer for Austin March for Our Lives, told CNN.The giveaway made Abbott's recent call for a roundtable discussion to curb gun violence illegitimate, said Kappelman.Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the suspected 17-year-old shooter, is currently being held on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault of a public servant.According to a probable cause affidavit signed by the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, Pagourtzis told officers he used a Remington 870 shotgun and a .38-caliber pistol in the shooting.Abbott told reporters on Friday the weapons were legally owned by Pagourtzis' father. His family released a statement on Saturday, saying they were "as shocked and confused as anyone else by these events that occurred.""We share the public's hunger for answers as to why this happened, and will await the outcome of the investigation before speaking about these events," the statement said.It's not the first time Abbott has held a giveaway for a shotgun. According to MySanAntonio.com, Abbott also hosted a raffle in October 2015 during his first year as governor. 3208

A Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department employee was on the job when he overdosed in the parking lot of a Brooklyn IHOP in March.Paul Grivas has a badge with the sheriff's department where he works as a process server — someone who serves warrants and subpoenas. He was in his marked sheriff's department vehicle when someone noticed him slumped over at the wheel and dialed 911."It was definitely a different situation dealing with somebody that's in the same line of work we are," Officer Joe Bugaj with the Brooklyn Police Department said.Police officers found several subpoenas he was in the process of serving in the back seat. They also found the badge he was carrying.When Brooklyn first responders arrived at the scene, they immediately recognized he was overdosing and unresponsive.Grivas was given several doses of Naloxone, the antidote for heroin. Police say when he woke up he was extremely combative. "He was flailing his arms, kicking his legs, and one of the medics ended up getting kicked in the head," Bugaj said.He kneed a fireman so hard, the fireman suffered a mild concussion. Officials say he is doing okay.Bugaj said it's not uncommon for people to wake up from an overdose and be aggravated. He said it's something first responders have to keep in mind. "You never know what could happen, whether or not they're going to be upset, because we are basically taking that high away from them," Bugaj said.When asked if there is anything first responders can do to protect themselves, Bugaj said it's just part of the job."It's our job. It's what we signed up to do. We are here to preserve life," Bugaj said.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland requested more information on Grivas' status with the sheriff's department, but did not hear back Wednesday. Grivas has been charged with felonious assault and obstructing official business.  1998

A Florida man was arrested after police say he left his 19-month-old daughter outside overnight during Hurricane Irma.Angelo Mitchell, 36, of Jasper, Florida, faces a charge of child cruelty related to the Sunday incident.According to Tallahassee's WCTV, the girl's mother called police Monday morning, telling them Mitchell had taken their daughter away the night before and when she saw him again on Monday, the girl wasn't with him.Police searched the area for the girl but were unable to find her. Mitchell allegedly denied ever taking her, telling officers she was probably with a family friend, according to WCTV.At about 11:30 a.m. local time on Monday, someone found the girl in the yard of a house about 500 yards away.Police said the girl's skin had turned purple after she'd spent the entire night outside during the storm being battered by wind and rain. The girl also had scratches and bug bites on her body, according to WCTV.
