SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A desperate Mira Mesa mother is pleading for tips after her teenage daughter disappeared, leaving behind a trail of disturbing clues.November 8th seemed like an ordinary Friday. Tina Camacho remembers asking her daughter Cirena Artero, 16, about her day at school."We talked, and she said her day was okay," said Camacho.Cirena is one of Camacho's five children."Around 6:45 p.m., we thought she went to her room. Around 7:30 p.m., we knew she was missing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is going back to the drawing board after a downtown agency blasted its affordable housing proposal Wednesday. Pinnacle planned to build a 58-unit low-income apartment complex at the corner of 11th and B. It would be attached to a 32-story market rate residential tower. While the buildings would be attached, they would have separate doors, no interior connections, and few shared amenities.Civic San Diego's board of directors rebuked the developer Wednesday. "You want to put us somewhere else," board member Robert Robinson said. "Are we not good enough to get on the top floor and look out at the ocean? That's what the message is here."David Dick, an attorney representing Pinnacle, said that was a misrepresentation of the intent. "It has to do with the realities of construction, cost financing, management and ownership," he said. Dick added that Pinnacle should be lauded for its willingness to fund much-needed affordable housing downtown, as opposed to paying an in-lieu fee that could take years to yield any units. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 4-acre brush fire in Chula Vista highlighted a firefighting technique that's relatively rare throughout the state: nighttime aerial water drops.Once considered too dangerous to attempt, a handful of agencies in California now have the helicopters and equipment needed to handle night operations, including the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.San Diego Fire has been doing water drops using military-grade night vision goggles since 2005, said pilot Chris Hartnell. The agency expanded its night helicopter coverage countywide in late 2014.Only two helicopters in San Diego County have the capability to do night drops. Both were in use Wednesday when flames broke out near a riverbed just before 11 p.m. in the 2500 block of Faivre Street, near Hollister Street.CAL Fire does not currently operate firefighting helicopters at night anywhere in the state, although the agency has plans to purchase 12 new helicopters with that capability, said CAL Fire San Diego spokesman Thomas Shoots. The agency just received its first Firehawk helicopter this year and plans to put it into service in about a month, Shoots said. Two more helicopters should arrive before the end of the year, and the agency plans to acquire all 12 by 2021. 1256

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two researchers, including one from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, are in Antarctica in an effort to uncover the planet's oldest ice.The research trip is part of a cordial international race to find the ice, which will give geologists and climate scientists new insight into Earth's climate history. Scripps paleoclimatologist Jeff Severinghaus and University of Minnesota-Deluth geologist John Goodge arrived this month at an ice-drilling outpost at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.In October, Severinghaus and researchers at Princeton University published a study in the journal Nature analyzing a two-million-year-old ice core. However, that core was incomplete in its historical portrait of ancient air. They believe their 50-ton drill could secure a 50-meter ice core with a full timeline of the continent's geologic development. Eventually, it could be used to dig to the continent's bedrock, which dates back 3 billion years.In addition to each other, geologists and climate scientists in the southern hemisphere are in a race against nature, as climate change continues to melt Antarctic ice and cause sea levels to rise, particularly on the continent's western edge, according to Goodge."The bigger question is what's happening in East Antarctica because there's a lot more sea level rise potential if it begins to melt as well," he said. "So we really need to understand what those conditions are."Once collected, the researchers will pack the ice samples in boxes until January, when the Antarctic sea ice thaws and the samples can be shipped to Port Hueneme in Ventura County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 20-year-old woman claims she was sexually assaulted for about 20 minutes during a Lyft ride in June.She's identified as Jane Roe in a civil lawsuit filed by Estey & Bomberger, LLP on Thursday. Roe tells 10News she has a disability and is unable to drive, she relies on Lyft to get to and from UCSD and around San Diego on a daily basis."I would use Lyft every day for about a year and a half," said Roe. "I would use it about 2-3 times a day."In June, Roe says she was using Lyft to travel from her father's home to her mother's, a 32-minute ride on the Interstate 5 that would forever change her life.RELATED: San Diego women reported in Uber, Lyft sex assault cases"He just asked me inappropriate questions," Roe said, referring to her driver. "He was commenting about inappropriate behaviors that he likes to do."Roe said the driver then told her to sit in the front passenger's seat, and out of fear she complied."The man.. he started touching me.. he groped my vagina, he groped my inner thighs, my thighs, my hamstrings," Roe said. She said the assault lasted between 15 and 20 minutes."I was kind of in a state of shock," Roe said. But Roe and her attorney, Mike Bomberger, say Lyft has been unresponsive."One of the things we don't know is what happened to the driver," Bomberger said.Roe and Bomberger allege that Lyft is not doing enough to keep passengers safe."Lyft fails to cooperate with police when there's an assault.
