ESCONDIDO, Calif. (CNS) - Nearly three-dozen cats were taken in by the San Diego Humane Society after they were left behind inside a condominium in Escondido last month, the agency announced Wednesday.The property manager of a condominium complex in the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue called the group on Oct. 22 to report that one of the condo's tenants had abandoned the cats after being evicted, according to the SDHS.Officers from the SDHS' law enforcement division responded to the home and found 31 cats living in "unsanitary conditions" inside the unit, SDHS spokeswoman Nina Thompson said.The cats were taken to SDHS campuses in Escondido and Oceanside for extensive medical exams, Thompson said. One cat had to be euthanized and a majority of the cats were found to be suffering from numerous medical conditions, including upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, ear infections and heart murmurs.The remaining 30 cats underwent more than three weeks of intensive medical care and were in the process of being transferred to SDHS' rescue partner Love Your Feral Felines for recovery, Thompson said.The Humane Society encourages the public to report animal emergencies, cruelty or neglect by calling 619-299-7012. 1234

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - An Encinitas restaurant is closed for deep cleaning after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.Kris Buchanan owns GOODONYA on S. Coast Highway 101. She closed the restaurant Sunday afternoon as soon as she found out her employee tested positive."Ironically, one of my best employees with the mask, like she never took that mask down," Kris Buchanan.Buchanan arranged for her staff of roughly 40 people to get tested for the virus antibodies Monday afternoon. If they test positive for antibodies, she'll pay for them to get the coronavirus test.The organic restaurant will reopen July 3, but only for pick up and delivery. Buchanan says the harassment her staff faced from some customers refusing to wear a mask isn't worth it."People take serious offense to that, I think, because of the health issue or maybe some sort of politically charged feeling about it, I don't know, " said Buchanan.She says fellow restaurant owners are dealing with similar issues."I'm friends with a few restaurant owners in Encinitas, and it's the same thing, coming in with that fake Facebook card that went around," said Buchanan.She said while most have been supportive, some customers have also made social distancing even more difficult by complaining about where they were seated."It's just a whole bunch of rigmarole here you're just trying to get their order and figure out if they want gluten-free or regular bread and you have this added layer of nonsense on top of it," said Buchanan.Since the pandemic hit, business is down roughly 50%, but Buchanan said her employees are her priority."More than the money, it's just worth me keeping my staff happy and safe," said Buchanan.GOODONYA will reopen Friday July 3, at 7 a.m. 1757

(KGTV) - Westfield Mall will be terminating its leases with two pet stores operating on their properties in San Diego County.It comes after two animal rights groups filed a lawsuit against Westfield and Bark Avenue, the pet store in the North County Fair mall.“We want to shut them down,” said Bryan Pease, attorney for the Animal Protection and Rescue League and Not One Animal Harmed.The complaint accuses Bark Avenue of unfair business practices. Despite a new state law that prohibits the retail sale of cats, dogs and rabbits, except for rescues, Bark Avenue has continued to sell purebred and designer puppies. ENCINITAS, Calif. -- No dancing allowed. Sounds a little like the movie, “Footloose” right? Well, it’s real — and it’s the law in the city of Encinitas, California.“We got in trouble for people dancing here,” said Brie Cardosa, owner of Mr. Peabody’s Bar and Grill. The restaurant was fined ,000 for allowing their patrons to dance while listening to live music.Cardonas' restaurant has been providing food and live music for more than a decade. She said they have never had any run-ins with the law until they recent fine from the Alcohol Beverage Control.“We didn’t realize we were doing anything wrong,” Cardosa said.The fine stemmed from a city law that makes it illegal to dance in Encinitas during evening hours.Encinitas Councilman Tony Kranz believes his predecessors created the law in 1986 to prevent several dance clubs from being built in the city, or to dissuade people from behaving lewdly at alcohol-serving establishments.“I think it’s just the result of cities trying to limit their liability," he said. "And make it an enjoyable experience for everybody that comes out."The crackdown took place after the city received an overwhelming number of complaints from a number of area bars. Many Peabody’s fans have taken a stand by signing an online petition to let them keep dancing.You can find the petition here. Cardosa said dancing to music is a natural reaction, and found it hard to force her patrons to remain still. “We just don’t want to get in trouble if we’re dancing, or if someone starts moving around,” Cardosa said. “We don’t want to tell them that they can’t dance. I might have even swayed to the music a couple of times there,” he said. “The (Alcohol Beverage Control) interprets their rules that if you sway to the music, you could be in violation of the rules. That is not what city council is interested in having happen.”Encinitas City staff have started work on a revision to the current, and outdated law. In the meantime, Cardosa is hoping the petition persuades the council to let them stay as is. Her other options are to turn in a “deemed approved ordinance” application to temporarily be approved or to submit the “entertainment establishment permit,” also known as the “cabaret permit.” This would allow Mr. Peabody’s to have “dancers“ inside their venue.But that doesn't really align either. “We don’t want to be a dance club. We don’t want to be a dance venue,” Cardosa said. “I hope to have the support of the city behind us, and just you know, move on.”Cardosa said she will continue to host live music at the restaurant several nights a week, without dancing. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies were investigating a deadly shooting in Fallbrook on Saturday.SDSO homicide detectives were called to the 700 block of Convertible Lane just after 12 p.m. for reports of gunshots by neighbors.Deputies arrived to find an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.
