(KGTV) — An Escondido restaurant was closed by the county this week after its owner allegedly refused to comply with health orders.County officials issued a notice to Hernandez Hideaway to close until it is able to adhere to coronavirus-related health orders for social distancing and sanitation standards.The order states that shortly after the county authorized restaurants to reopen on May 21, the county's Department of Environmental Health conducted an inspection on May 29 and found social distancing and sanitation protocols were not in place, and employees were not wearing facial coverings.On June 12, 21, and 23, San Diego Sheriff's deputies visited the restaurant and asked for voluntary compliance.Owner Rick Stevens declined to comment to ABC 10News."Mr. Stevens admitted that he was not compliant and state he will continue to operate without these COVID preventative measures and will not require staff to wear face coverings," the ordered stated, referencing a June 23 visit by county officials.In order to reopen, the restaurant will have to prepare a revised reopening plan and submit it to the county for approval.This is the county's second restaurant forced to close in violation of health orders. In May, Pacific Beach's El Prez was closed by the county after social media videos surfaced showing crowds of guests, many not social distancing or wearing facial coverings. FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — A mother is speaking out and speaking up after a high school administrator called cheerleaders at Harrison High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan strippers.Dorrine Griffen said she was shocked and hurt when her daughter came home after a pep rally at Farmington's Harrison High School to learn a school administrator called out the cheer team and degraded them.“You got to refer to those students as strippers, and now you’re right back, hands-on, working with them,” said Griffen.On September 21, Harrison High School cheerleaders held a pep rally in the school gymnasium when something was said by a school administrator.“She said the assistant principal referred to the routine the girls performed at the pep rally and said she wouldn’t allow them to perform anymore or would not want to have them perform anymore because they look like strippers,” Griffen said.Griffin, an educator herself, said this kind of language is disappointing.“We have a bigger role. (AP) — A bald eagle launched an aerial assault on a drone operated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy — which is known as EGLE — ripping off a propeller and sending the aircraft into Lake Michigan. The department says the attack happened July 21, when the drone was mapping shoreline erosion near Escanaba in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Drone pilot Hunter King says he had completed about seven minutes of the mapping flight when satellite reception became spotty and the drone began to twirl. King and two birdwatchers saw the eagle flying away, apparently unhurt. Tracking data indicates the drone landed in the lake, about 150 feet offshore. It has not been found. 723

But one local business owner says San Diego is ready to meet the demand during the COVID pandemic. Bruce Damon, the owner of Nomad Ventures in Escondido, says after a 10-week shutdown they are back serving outdoor enthusiasts."We're just hoping that people can get out and enjoy themselves safely, and kayaking was one of the first things that I understood was considered a safe endeavor," says Damon.In what came as a surprise to Damon, he saw media reports saying kayaks were in short supply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn't been the case at Nomad Ventures"We've had the busiest year as far as I can remember in terms of kayaks selling a lot of kayaks here," Damon said. So to say there is a kayak shortage, at least in San Diego, would not be accurate as far as Damon is concerned."Our shutdown was right when we were at complete inventory," Damon said. "Stock levels were high, and when we reopened, we had stock."He was quite alarmed when customers were steered towards shopping online when his shop was completely full of outdoor products. "We have back stock in storage units that we pull from to restock the store. ENCINITAS (CNS) - A North County community leader who's known as a bicycle and pedestrian safety advocate was hit by a truck and seriously injured while riding her bicycle in Encinitas early Saturday.The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday on North Coast Highway 101 near Phoebe Street, San Diego Sheriff's Lt. Dave Perkins said.The victim was Roberta Walker, executive director of the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association, The Coast News reported. Walker is known as a staunch defender of pedestrian and cyclist rights.She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Perkins said.
