It could be because a shortage of truck drivers is driving shipping prices up.Currently 50,000 truck drivers are needed to help ship your favorite everyday products across the country. Quincy Jones is the director at Sage Truck Driving School and says there are a few reasons why people aren’t becoming drivers.“Part of the reason is because the average truck driver is 55 years old and with the shortage of millennials coming in," Jones said.With drivers retiring and young people choosing four-year degrees, it's affecting deliveries. Companies like Coke, Hershey’s and General Mills have all said they have to pay more to get their items shipped to stores, which means wallets take a hit."I think ecommerce has a lot to do with it — just with the demand of everybody having to order stuff to have it delivered to their houses instead of actually going out and shopping for it,” Jones said.Being a truck driver can be a lucrative job right out of the gate, and it only takes four weeks of training. That’s one of the reason Sage student Miguel decided to sign up.“The money is really good, especially in this field — and I mean it’s just a lot to offer, benefits and money,” Miguel said.With a shortage of drivers, some companies are offering big signing bonuses for those considering driving. Solo drivers could receive a ,000 signing bonus, and team drivers could receive up to ,000.Jones believes more people would become drivers if they could afford the training.“With increased funding from the government helping with these new students through and getting them into the industry I think that’s a possible way,” he said.Even though Miguel is sacrificing a lot starting this career, he knows it’s beneficial to everyone.“It’s a full cycle. Hank Azaria says his "eyes have been opened" and he's willing to "step aside" from playing his controversial "Simpsons" character.The actor appeared on Tuesday's episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and talked about the fallout surrounding the character he voices, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.Comedian Hari Kondabolu's documentary "The Problem with Apu" debuted last November and looked at the character as a negative, stereotypical representation of South Asians.Nahasapeemapetilon, a Indian-American character with a thick accent, operates the Kwik-E-Mart convenience store in the fictional town of Springfield. The show recently aired a response to complaints about him.Writers had the character of Lisa Simpson respond to a question from her mother Marge by saying, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?" before Lisa glanced at a framed photograph of Apu on her nightstand, which was inscribed with the message "Don't have a cow."The scene generated further complaints from viewers.Azaria voices multiple characters on the show, including Moe Szyslak and Chief Wiggum. He told Colbert he just wanted to be funny."The idea that anybody, young or old, past or present was bullied or teased based on the character of Apu, it just really makes me sad," Azaria said. "It was certainly not my intention. I wanted to spread laughter and joy with this character and the idea that it's brought pain and suffering in any way, that it was used to marginalize people, it's upsetting."The actor told Colbert he had nothing to do with the show's response, given that Apu doesn't speak during the episode. HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — Several dogs were found dead in a Hernando County, Florida home that neighbors say no one has lived in since Hurricane Irma.Neighbors are furious now knowing they were living next to a home where dogs were suffering inside. "I don’t know how any human could do that," said neighbor Patt Pierce. Pierce said on Tuesday, a construction crew working nearby notified her of a dead dog visible through the window of her neighbor’s home."Our houses are far enough apart where we can’t hear inside the home," said Pierce. Neighbors tell Scripps station WFTS in Tampa that no one has lived in the home since they saw a truck moving furniture out the week before Hurricane Irma. They believe the dogs were abandoned in the home with no food or water."They did not die easy. Imagine being in that home and starving to dead and those animals one by one dropping, she needs to go to jail." said neighbor Chris Kirby, referring to the homeowner. WFTS contacted the homeowner’s attorney who tells us his client, who prefers to go by the name Wendy Lauren Kopp, was letting a man live in the home and he is the one who left the dogs there. The attorney also tells us his client is cooperating with authorities and is not a suspect in the case.The sheriff’s office said the dogs were so decomposed, they haven't been able to accurately count how many are in there. They say their investigation is still ongoing and have not yet announced suspects in the case. Neighbors, however, say they are still heartbroken and wish they could've done more. "For this to happen, all of us are carrying a little guilt like we could’ve done more. We could’ve broke in we could’ve kept calling," said Kirby. "We have a no kill shelter. We have rescue groups. We have someone in the community that would take the dogs," said Pierce.  1902

Gina Haspel on Friday sought to withdraw her nomination as President Donald Trump's pick to head the CIA after some White House officials raised concerns that her role in the agency's interrogation program could sink her confirmation, according to The Washington Post.During a Friday meeting at the White House, Haspel, the current CIA deputy director, signaled she would step aside to avoid potential damage to her and the agency's reputations, The Post reported Sunday, citing four senior US officials.Haspel, a 33-year CIA veteran, was summoned to the White House to answer questions about her role in the agency's controversial interrogation program, the Post reported.Haspel feared becoming "the next Ronny Jackson," the former White House physician who withdrew his nomination as Veterans Affairs secretary amid questions about alleged misconduct on the job, one official told the Post.After Haspel left the meeting, senior White House officials, including press secretary Sarah Sanders and legislative affairs director Marc Short, rushed to CIA headquarters Friday afternoon to meet with Haspel at her office, The Post reported.The newspaper said Trump learned of the situation on Friday and called officials while in Dallas for the National Rifle Association convention.
