(KGTV) -- NBA star Kawhi Leonard is suing Nike, claiming the sportswear company committed fraud by claiming ownership of a logo he created. According to the lawsuit, the logo included his hand, the initials “KL” and the number 2, which he wore for much of his career. As part of an endorsement deal with Nike, Leonard allowed the company to use the logo on certain merchandise while he continued to use the logo on non-Nike goods. The lawsuit also claims that, without Leonard’s consent, Nike filed an application for copyright registration of his logo and “falsely represented in the application that Nike had authored the logo.”As part of the lawsuit, Leonard is seeking a “declaratory judgment of non-infringement and that Leonard is the author of the logo and Nike, in registering for the copyright of Leonard’s logo, committed fraud on the Copyright Office.”Leonard played for the San Diego State Aztecs and is currently a forward for the Toronto Raptors. 969

(KGTV) -- Many scientists and doctors are cautiously optimistic about taking a step forward in the fight against COVID-19 after encouraging news from Pfizer Monday.Pfizer announced that early data revealed its vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in protecting trial participants against the coronavirus.The U.S. Federal Food and Drug Admiration still needs to review the drug for safety and efficacy, and Pfizer plans to seek an Emergency Use Authorization this month, but regardless some see this as a good sign for other vaccine trials.“I think this is frankly the break we’ve all been waiting for, and I hope we have many others to follow,” said Dr. Susan Little, a UC San Diego Professor of Medicine.UCSD is participating in Phase 3 clinical trials for Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen vaccines.Little leads the AstraZeneca and Janssen trials, which resumed locally last week.“I think what this means for all of the trials that are available at this stage, this is incredibly good news,” she said. “So far, they all use the same approach to vaccine development; they are all targeting the same protein, the spike protein, on the coronavirus.”She expects similar results to come from Moderna’s early data sometime this year.“The Pfizer and the Moderna both use the same vaccine platform, the same structure for their vaccine construct, so there’s every reason to be very optimistic the Moderna study might show similar results,” she said. “While the AstraZeneca and the Janssen use a different vaccine construct, they both are targeting the same protein.”If Pfizer’s vaccine is approved, it could be given to healthcare workers and high-risk populations in just months, and the general population in 2021, according to Pfizer.Pfizer said it expects to produce 50 million vaccine doses globally in 2020 and up to 1.3 billion in 2021.Pfizer’s CEO, Albert Bourla, said he expects the vaccine to be free of charge for Americans. 1943

(KGTV) - The world's oldest message in a bottle was discovered half-buried at a West Australian beach nearly 132 years since it was written.The Western Australian Museum confirmed Tuesday that the message is dated June 12, 1886 — dating back more than 48,000 days. The old gin bottle was jettisoned from the Germain sailing barque "Paula," according to the museum."It just looked like a lovely old bottle so I picked it up thinking it might look good in my bookcase. My son’s girlfriend was the one who discovered the note when she went to tip the sand out," Tonya Illman, the woman who discovered the bottle told the museum. "The note was damp, rolled tightly and wrapped with string. We took it home and dried it out, and when we opened it we saw it was a printed form, in German, with very faint German handwriting on it."RELATED: Billionaire explorer discovers sunken US WWII aircraft carrierIllman's husband then spent time researching the message before discover just how far back it dated.According to the museum, the bottles were part of an experiment by what was known as "Deutsche Seewarte," or German Naval Observatory. For 69 years, thousands of bottle were tossed overboard German ships studying ocean currents.The notes, which contained dates and coordinates, would instruct whoever finds the bottle to write back when and where they located the note to help researchers build data on currents. (KGTV) — It took some months after opening for Disneyland to finally make good on its promise of living out your Star Wars dreams, but boy did it deliver."Rise of the Resistance" opens on Friday, Jan. 17 at the park's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" land with one mission: Put riders in the middle of a galaxy far, far away. While not without a few slower moments, the attraction brings a new standard to theme park rides.While Galaxy's Edge has provided a decent amount of "Star Wars" enjoyment, there has been something missing. ROTR rises above expectations, using four ride systems to deliver that feeling fans have craved since the park's "Star Wars" expansion opened last summer.
