(CNS) -- Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, D-Marina del Rey, announced Monday she has tested positive for the coronavirus after apparently being exposed while the Legislature was reviewing the state budget.Her positive test led to a closure of the state Capitol in Sacramento so the Assembly offices could be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized."On July 3rd I received a call from the Assembly Human Resources Department that I had a 'mask to mask' exposure to COVID-19 on June 26th," Burke wrote on her Twitter page. "I was tested on the morning of July 4th and received my results in the evening that I had tested positive for the coronavirus."Currently my daughter and I have no symptoms, but will be remaining in quarantine until released by a doctor," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with well wishes. MIAMI, Fla. — Parts of Texas and Louisiana are bracing for Hurricane Laura, as continues to move closer to the United States as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm.Earlier in the day, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued a dire warning, saying "little time to protect life and property."Laura is expected to deliver catastrophic storm surge, extreme winds, and flash flooding.As of the 8 p.m. ET update, Laura is about 120 miles south of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and 120 miles south-southeast of Port Arthur, Texas. LOUISVILLE, Colo. — It's been five months since Jonas Asner's last trip home to Colorado. This visit has an important purpose."I had to fly home to vote," Asner said.Asner's parents, Chris and Lisa Hall, sent his ballot to North Carolina on Oct. 14, where Jonas goes to school. His father, Chris Hall, purchased priority mail through USPS. The ballot was supposed to arrive in two to three days. LUTZ, Fla. — A Florida mother was arrested after her 3-year-old daughter drowned in a Lutz pool.According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, on March 10 at 9:45 p.m., 30-year-old Caitlin Joy Powell arrived at her job at JT's Road House bar in Tampa. At the beginning of her shift, she allegedly took a 15mg pill of morphine prescribed to her by a doctor. At about midnight she took another half pill in the same shift.Powell also reportedly drank four to five shots of Bailey's Irish Cream and butterscotch liqueur during her shift. Deputies say she left work at about 2:40 a.m. and drove to her friend's house to pick up her daughter. They drove to her home in Lutz where she put her daughter in bed and went to sleep.HCSO says that Powell woke up twice that morning to use the bathroom and change the child's diapers. At about 12:30 p.m. the next day, Powell was awoken by a witness who said the child was in the backyard pool. The toddler was transported to the hospital, but later died.Detectives noted the pool was heavily ridden with green algae and the visibility into the pool was barely past the first step. They say the woman knew the sliding glass doors leading to the backyard did not properly lock and the safety pin that binds both doors together was missing for approximately one to two weeks. The bar she allegedly placed to secure the door was located in the backyard under a shovel.A fence was created in front of the pool, but there was about a one foot gap next to the wall blocked by a small metal cage and a plastic pet carrier, both light in weight.Investigation revealed the 3-year-old walked around the pool, fell in and drowned.Powell says the child was unsupervised for about four and a half hours.On May 8, Powell turned herself in and was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly saying on Facebook live that he would shoot Louisville police officers for ,000.The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky said Sunday that 29-year-old Cortez Lamont Edwards was in possession of an AR variant pistol including a non-extendible support brace and extended magazine when he went live last Wednesday.In the video, Edwards says he’s requesting to be paid ,000 to shoot the officer on scene for a disturbance in the street in front of his home, according to a criminal complaint.Authorities say an investigation revealed that the Louisville man is a convicted felon, having been convicted of complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.Edwards was taken into custody Sunday after a team of law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at his home. He’s being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.If convicted at trial, the maximum sentence for unlawfully possessing a firearm is 10 years in prison, a 0,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.Louisville has become a site of unrest this year, with people calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case.
