A nationwide onion recall this summer is hitting meal prep kits. HelloFresh is urging customers to throw away onions from certain meals recently shipped out.The meal prep home delivery company says they were informed by one of their suppliers it is voluntarily recalling onions because of a potential presence of salmonella bacteria.Thomson International, Inc., based in California, issued a recall of all onions distributed after May 1 because of potential contamination with salmonella bacteria. They are a large supplier of onions, and the recall has impacted grocery stores and restaurants in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.All onions received between May 8 and July 31 should be discarded. In addition, HelloFresh recommends customers use extra caution in disinfecting and sanitizing surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with onions in their meal prep kits during this time period.For a list of impacted products, see the list of product codes below provided by HelloFresh. A runner in Sunday's London Marathon who appeared on the BBC television show "Masterchef: The Professionals" collapsed during the race and later died, according to the event organizers.Matt Campbell, 29, collapsed after running 22.5 miles of the 26.2-mile course, the London Marathon organization said in a statement. Despite receiving immediate medical treatment, Campbell died later at a hospital. The cause of death has not yet been established.The organizers offered their "sincere condolences to Matt's family and friends," adding that the family has asked for privacy.Campbell's family paid tribute to an "inspirational son and brother," who was an avid marathon runner. He also was a professional chef who appeared on the competitive cooking show "Masterchef: The Professionals" in 2017.He was running the London Marathon to raise money for The Brathay Trust, which inspires vulnerable people to make positive changes in their lives, and in memory of his father, who died in 2016. Campbell also had run a marathon in Manchester two weeks ago.Shortly before Sunday's race, he tweeted a picture of himself with fellow runner Tom Peters, with the words, "Let's do this!!"Campbell's death follows that of London Marathon participant David Seath, an officer in the British Army, two years ago, and 42-year-old Robert Berry in 2014.Sunday's London Marathon was one of the hottest ever, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit). A train carrying dozens of Republican members of Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, to their legislative retreat in West Virginia hit a truck on January 31, 2017 leaving one person dead.Wednesday the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary investigation into the crash.They said around 11:15 a.m., a 2018 Freightliner truck equipped with a McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing refuse body was traveling southbound on Lanetown Road in Albemarle County near Crozet, Virginia.The refuse truck, operated by Time Disposal LLC, had a 30-year-old driver and two passengers as it drove towards a highway–railroad grade crossing, later identified. The crossing is active and includes advance warning signs and pavement markings on its approach, the National Transportation Safety Board said. The crossing is also equipped with crossbuck signs, warning lights, bells and gates.As the truck neared the highway a westbound Congressional Special Amtrak train was approaching the highway–railroad grade crossing.The NTSB said the train’s lead locomotive was equipped with a forward-facing track image camera. Data that was taken from the camera showed that as the crossing came into view, the gates were down and the truck was on the grade crossing. Witnesses to the crash reported that the refuse truck entered the crossing after the gates were down.The train’s recorder showed the Amtrak train was traveling about 61 mph when the engineer applied emergency braking. The train struck the left rear of the refuse truck, causing the truck to rotate counterclockwise and then collide with a railroad signal next to the tracks. The refuse body separated from the truck, and the truck’s two passengers were ejected, according to the NTSB.As a result of the crash, one passenger in the truck died. The other truck passenger had serious injuries and the driver of the truck had minor injuries. Three Amtrak crewmembers and three train passengers sustained minor injuries, the NTSB said.NTSB investigators and Albemarle County Police Department officials and the Federal Bureau of Investigation documented the crash scene and the characteristics of the crossing, the train and the refuse truck. The track and operational characteristics of the crossing signals were also examined and documented.The crash remains under investigation.  2354

A Pennsylvania man is facing criminal charges for allegedly requesting and casting ballots for dead relatives.The Delaware County District Attorney announced the charges against Bruce Bartman Monday.“We are charging him today with two counts of perjury for making false statements to register two deceased individuals who are his relatives both his mother and his mother-in-law. He made false statements through the state’s assure system to register them as voters and he’s also charged with making an unlawful vote because he actually submitted an absentee ballot for his deceased mother, a ballot that was counted,” District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said at a press conference.Stollsteimer says both women were registered as Republicans and Bartman told investigators he had done so to help reelect Donald Trump.Bartman reportedly used the driver’s license number for his mother, who died more than a decade ago, and was able to obtain a ballot.Prosecutors say he used his mother-in-law’s social security number to register her for the general election, and the system returned a deceased record for her prompting the state to send a confirmation letter to the address to confirm the information, according to WPVI.Stollsteimer’s office says Bartman falsified this confirmation letter and returned it to register his mother-in-law to vote. He did not obtain a ballot in her name, according to prosecutors.“In his political frustration, he chose to do something stupid,” Bartman’s lawyer, Samuel Stretton told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “And for that he is very sorry.”Stollsteimer said there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Delaware County and this was the only case of voter fraud during this election his office has encountered. However, they have had scores of leads investigators have followed up on.Investigators said rumors on social media about a dead voter in Delaware County led to a complaint filed with the county’s Board of Elections. A task force followed up and found evidence of a crime, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.This incident is the third instance of reported voter fraud in Pennsylvania since the election last month, the Inquirer reported.Previous reports include a man who cast two ballots on Election Day, one for himself and one in the name of his son, and of a man who allegedly applied for a ballot for his dead mother. A new species of prehistoric reptile has apparently been discovered within the depths of the Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona.Named Skybalonyx skapter, the fossilized remains are believed to be a new species of drepanosaur, a reported 220-million-year-old burrowing reptile that potentially looked like a combination of an anteater and chameleon, the Petrified Forest National Park said Tuesday in a news release.Skybalonyx skapter, though, may have looked even more peculiar, the release said.Drepanosaurs have been noted to have interesting features, such as "enlarged second claws, bird-like beaks, and tails ending with a claw," the release said.The discovery was made by research teams from Petrified Forest National Park, Virginia Tech, University of Washington, Arizona State University, Idaho State University, and the Virginia Museum of Natural History, according to the release.Their findings were reportedly published on Oct. 8 in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology. The study compared the claws of drepanosaurs to Skybalonyx skapter to modern animals, and reportedly found that Skybaonyx skapter's claws were similar to moles, echidnas, and mole-rats.Adam Marsh, the lead paleontologist at the Petrified Forest, said in an email that the bones were discovered during the summers of 2018 and 2019 as part of a paleontological dig.Due to their small size, the remains were reportedly difficult to find using traditional methods. Essentially, research teams used a series of metal screens and water to sift and break down rocks to find the fossils.He said the bones were found in the eastern expansion of the forest that was acquired in 2011.
