BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's anti-graft chief He Guoqiang Thursday hailed an online interview program on rectifying officials and government agencies' misconduct.     He, secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, said the program by the People's Daily Online has made full use of the Internet media to answer people's questions and help solve their problems.     The program will undoubtedly help promote the government's efforts in rectifying misconduct of officials and government agencies.     The program started on July 16 to encourage people's participation in the government's rectifying campaign.     Officials in charge of the rectification work are invited to answer netizens' questions, which cover a wide range of hot topics including farmers' benefits, education, medical treatment, transportation, food and drug safety among others.     Netizens can also disclose misconduct of government agency staff during the online interview, and authorities will start investigations, according to the State Council's rectification office.     Currently rectification offices in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have set up their official Web sites.

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has urged northwest China's Gansu Province to blaze a new trail of development in the western region to realize sound and fast economic and social development.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the call when he was inspecting Gansu Province from Nov. 9 to 14. ROME, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Monday proposed a four-point action plan aimed at eradicating world hunger in his address to a world summit on food security.     Stressing the fact that the financial crisis has worsened the plight of the poor and the hungry, the Chinese vice premier said the summit, hosted at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters here, was "of special significance to world food security, global economic recovery and sustainable development."     In order to overcome the "dual pressure of an international financial crisis and a global food crisis," the first suggestion of the Chinese government was to increase input and raise food production by investing more in agriculture, build up the capability to resist natural disasters and strive for greater self-sufficiency. During the three-day event more than 60 heads of state and government will gather to discuss measures to eradicate hunger and ensure food security.

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong said here on Thursday that the country will push forward educational reform to promote educational equity and quality.     Liu made the remarks while inspecting the Central University for Nationalities and the Beijing Language and Culture University.     Liu praised the Central University for Nationalities for their contribution to ethnic unity and the development of ethnic areas. She urged the university to help students find their jobs and help students from poor families.     During the visit to the Beijing Language and Culture University, Liu expressed the hope that students from foreign countries could deeply understand and feel China and promote friendship between China and people all over the world.     She also expressed New Year greetings to the country's teachers and students, including students from abroad.
