SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two local strip clubs ordered to close down amid a surge of COVID-19 cases and deaths across California are allowed to remain open, a judge ruled Wednesday. The court order also appears to offer protection to restaurants prompting the county to suspend enforcement of the state's COVID-19 public safety policy on barring indoor-outdoor dining.In the nine-page ruling, San Diego County Superior Court Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the cease-and-desist order from being enforced on strip clubs and "San Diego County businesses with restaurant service" from operating.The order, effective immediately, still requires businesses to adhere to COVID safety protocols.Eateries had been ordered to close indoor operations in November when the county fell into the state's purple tier restrictions, then were restricted to takeout and delivery service only earlier this month. "With record numbers of new infections, deaths, and ICUs at capacity, we want to remind everyone to do your part. Engineering, medicine and management all took top spots on the list. According to the report, UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering was ranked 11th overall in the U.S. and 6th in the nation among public engineering schools. The school’s bioengineering program placed 5th in the nation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Veterinarians with the San Diego Humane Society say too many pets are packing on extra pounds.The shelter sees overweight pets every day and recently received a 26-pound cat named Angelo; his family could no longer care for him. "Even though a lot of people may perceive him to be cute or funny, for us it's alarming to see an animal this size," said Dr. Danielle Clem, Hospital Director for the San Diego Campus.Overweight pets like Angelo are at risk for health complications like diabetes and severe arthritis."I really am a firm believer that good pet care starts with what you put in their food dish - and it's as simple as that," said Dr. Clem.Hospital staff put Angelo on a strict diet and began to encourage exercise. But Dr. Clem warns that if your pet needs to lose weight, it should be done under veterinarian supervision. "Cats losing weight too rapidly can actually be very dangerous."While Angelo has already been adopted, SDHS officials invite people to meet other cats during adopt-a-shelter-cat month. 1045

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Witnesses say a woman was driving at least 100 mph before she crashed into a power pole in the Oak Park area and died early Sunday morning.The crash happened in the 2000 block of 54th Street around 1:30 a.m.According to witnesses, the woman was traveling at approximately 100 mph when she struck a curb, skidded out of control and hit a power pole.The 33-year-old became pinned inside the vehicle after the crash. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut the woman out of the vehicle.The woman died at the scene due to her injuries. At this time, police say they don’t know whether or not drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 672
