The Ohio Department of Agriculture issued a warning about an insect that could kill wine in Ohio. The spotted lanternfly can cause significant damage to some plants and has been seen in Pennsylvania. According to the Department of Agriculture, the insect is fond of grape and fruit trees, hops, blueberry, oak, pine, poplar and walnut. Adult spotted lanterflies usually eat grapevines, while nymphs eat multiple types of plants. The insects eat stems and leaves, which can cause sap to bleed and reduce photosynthesis, which can eventually kill the plant.Spotted lanternflies can be spotted now through November. The insect can be identified by its red body, roughly a half-inch in size, with black stripes and white dots. Later this summer until November, the insect is in the adult moth stage. The adults are larger, roughly one inch in size, with black bodies and brightly colored wings. The insect has not been confirmed in Ohio yet but residents who believe they have spotted one are asked to report it online or by calling 614-728-640. The second and final presidential debate was held on Thursday night. People from around the country watched President Donald Trump and Joe Biden used words some may not have known the definition for.According to Merriam-Webster, there are several words that are trending after the debate, including "malarkey," which was used by Biden, and "coyote," which Trump used to talk about illegal immigration.Malarkey was the top trend, according to the site, with searches spiking 500% during the debate.According to Merriam-Webster, "Malarkey is defined as “insincere or foolish talk; bunkum.” The word has been in use since the early 20th century, and is of unknown origin."Fracking was the second-highest trend after it came up several times during the debate. Searches increased 4,000%, according to the site."The definition of fracking is "the injection of fluid into shale beds at high pressure in order to free up petroleum resources (such as oil or natural gas)."Searches for coyote spiked 675% during the debate, according to Merriam-Webster. Most people know what a coyote is, but the way Trump used it was different. Merriam-Webster said "it also has a slang meaning that was used during the debate: 'one who smuggles immigrants into the U.S.'" This story originally reported by Max White on wxyz.com. 1329

"It's weird being a 16 year old these days," Reid Sotkin said. You could say Sotkin is just your average kid. He's a junior at Jenks High School who likes to hang out with friends. And oh, by the way, he's an investment guru."I just googled what books Warren Buffet recommended and that's kind of how I got my start," Sotkin said. One of his favorite books?"Actually this book right here," he said. "'The Intelligent Investor' taught me quite a bit."Sotkin is so passionate about investing, he's become a source of advice for friends young and old."I started investing myself and then all my friends started asking me what they should invest into and stuff," he said. Now, he's combining his love of investing and his passion for coding to develop an app to teach people how to invest wisely."There's a feature on the app where you put in your salary and how long until you retire, all your bills and everything," Sotkin said. Sotkin's app, "Calculating The Future," is an award winning app."It tells you how much you have to put in each month into each of them and it tells you how much money you'll have when you retire," he said. Sotkin appeared before a panel of judges on a Zoom call, answered all kinds of questions, and won the 2020 Congressional App Challenge."I guess they just chose me to win and then Congressman Hern gave me a phone call one afternoon. Yeah, I was pretty surprised," he said. Sotkin puts his money where his mouth is. He plans on living comfortably. So, he's investing now."I do a couple hundred dollars every month," Sotkin said. "So, I just do that so that way I'll have a couple million dollars by the time I retire just sitting in the background."During our Zoom interview, I just couldn't resist getting some advice about my own investment advisor, 2 Works For You's Chief Meteorologist Mike Collier."He's kind of been giving me some stock tips and they've been kind of terrible," I said as Sotkin laughed. "So, give Mike some advice on how he should invest in the stock market.""Basically, unless you're very smart and spending a lot of time, you're not going to beat the market," Sotkin said.Sotkin said he likes the S&P500. It represents 500 very reliable companies."That's gone up an average of 9.8% since its inception," Sotkin said. "That's the way to go. Just put it in index funds and let it accumulate over 30, 40, 50 years."The future is looking bright for this young entrepreneur and it could be for you, too. Sotkin said it's all about starting early, being consistent, and taking advantage of compound interest."Do you mind if I ask about your net worth right now," I asked."Yeah, but ah... I don't want to say right now," he answered. This story originally reported by Mike Brooks on KJRH.com. 2763

MILWAUKEE -- One of the Milwaukee County Zoo's harbor seals has died days after she gave birth to a seal pup, Zoo officials announced Tuesday.Sydney, who arrived at the Zoo in 2005 after being rescued as an orphaned pup herself, gave birth to a male seal pup on June 3. Three days later, Sydney died unexpectedly. Officials say a preliminary necropsy shows Sydney died of a "systemic infection" - which begins in one area and then moves to the bloodstream, affecting the entire body. The pup, who has not yet been named, is being hand-raised by zookeepers and animal care staff. He was the fifth pup born to Sydney and her companion, Ringo."Keepers are assist-feeding the pup five times daily with a milk replacer formula made specifically for marine mammals which includes a high fat content and vitamins," a news release from the Zoo says. "Normally, harbor seals nurse 4-6 weeks before weaning. In the meantime, finely ground fish is gradually being added to the formula. As of June 23, in addition to the formula feedings, the pup has been introduced to live fish to pique his natural instincts.""Keepers comment [Sydney] was extremely smart, and through training sessions, taught them how to be patient, calm and reliable...Sydney will be missed by her keepers and visitors," the Zoo says. This article was written by WTMJ. 1346
