CINCINNATI -- Kroger Co. has joined Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart in tightening its policy on gun sales after a school shooting killed 17 in Parkland, Florida. The Wall Street Journal reports the Cincinnati-based grocery chain will stop selling guns to anybody under 21 at 43 Fred Meyer locations, mostly located in western states."Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers," the company wrote in a statement to CNBC. "We believe these are common sense steps we can take immediately that are in line with our values and our vision." On Wednesday morning, Dick's Sporting Goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, announced it would?stop selling assault-style weapons and raise its minimum age for gun purchases to 21. Walmart quickly followed, also raising its minimum age to 21.Read the full statement from Kroger below.Kroger's vision is to serve America through food inspiration and uplift. In response to the tragic events in Parkland and elsewhere, we've taken a hard look at our policies and procedures for firearm sales. We follow all state and local laws regulating the sales of sporting-related firearms at our select general-merchandise Fred Meyer stores.Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers. We are raising the minimum age to 21 to purchase firearms and ammunition in all of our Fred Meyer locations that sell firearms. We stopped selling assault-style rifles in our Oregon, Washington and Idaho Fred Meyer stores several years ago and we will no longer accept any special-orders of these weapons in Alaska. Through Restock Kroger, we have a robust space optimization effort underway in many of our stores, including Fred Meyer locations. As we refresh stores we are often transitioning gun departments due to softer demand and changing customer preferences. We believe these are common sense steps we can take immediately that are in line with our values and our vision. 2030

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors say several aggressive coyotes are treating some South Bay parks as their hunting ground, attacking pets of all sizes.Along East Naples Street, surveillance video captured a hard-to-watch scene a few weeks ago in Patty Prescott's yard: a coyote toying with a feral kitten that Prescott was caring for."I ran out of the house. I started yelling, waving my arms. That's when the coyote dropped the kitten," said Prescott.Sadly, the kitten died. Prescott says coyote sightings have surged in the neighborhood, with more than six pets killed in the last month. Just to the south, at Max Field, home to little league fields, neighbors have been reporting several aggressive coyotes roaming the baseball fields and nearby Loma Verde Park since the start of the pandemic."Frightening. No fear of people. You make noise, and they take a step back and then stare you down. Now they're coming out earlier, throughout the day, any time throughout the day. They're searching and looking," said neighbor Rachel Morineau.Park goers say the coyotes are going after dogs of all sizes. In late May, cellphone video showed one of the coyotes leaping a park fence and attacking a large pit bull, before its owner chased it off.The coyotes' behavior has unnerved neighbors."I don't feel safe, even in my front yard," said Prescott.A group of neighbors has banned together, starting a Gofundme campaign to address the issue. Their concerns grabbed the attention of City Councilman Mike Diaz, who secured funding to trap the coyotes. Because state laws don't allow for them to be relocated, they will be euthanized."It's not something we wanted to do, but they are getting very aggressive, and it's the only option California gives us," said Morineau.Until they're trapped, Prescott plans to defend herself and her other cats."My son sent me a pellet gun, and I plan on using it for my protection," said Prescott.Councilman Diaz says the funding will also help form a long-term plan looking at the presence of coyotes in the city. 2055

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A part-time Coronado High School basketball coach pleaded guilty today to a felony sex charge involving a 17-year-old female student.Jordan Tyler Bucklew, 34, remains out of custody on bail and is slated to be sentenced Dec. 22 following his plea to a felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was charged in February with a felony count of digital penetration and three misdemeanor child molestation counts, which could have had him facing up to three years in state prison if convicted, but those charges were dismissed Tuesday in light of the plea. The Coronado Police Department received a report on Jan. 31 regarding ``an inappropriate relationship'' between the part-time coach and a teenage student, and Bucklew was arrested three days later.According to the original criminal complaint, the incidents took place between December 2019 and January of this year. When Bucklew was arrested, the Coronado Unified School District issued a statement saying the district ``takes such claims very seriously. When the allegations became known, the district followed policy and protocol including cooperation with Coronado Police Department to protect the safety and security of district students and staff.''Officials with Coronado High School and the school district did not immediately respond Tuesday to inquiries regarding Bucklew's employment status. 1397

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (CNS) - A report on five possible sites for a future Cal State University campus, including in Chula Vista, states that none of the sites would be a suitable candidate based on enrollment demand alone, according to a report presented Tuesday to the CSU Board of Trustees. The report stems from a study undertaken to assess the potential need for a new campus in Chula Vista, as well as the cities of Concord and Palm Desert, and the counties of San Mateo and San Joaquin. The study -- which can be viewed at https://www.csucapacitystudy.org -- examines various factors regarding a potential CSU site in Chula Vista's University and Innovation District. The study found that CSU enrollment is projected to increase "moderately" over the next 15 years, with the San Diego area projected to see 5,700 more full-time CSU students by 2035.RELATED: Chula Vista on shortlist for potential California State University campusWhile the report concluded the projected enrollment demand does not warrant a new campus, the study did not account for COVID-19's possible enrollment impacts, as CSU's pandemic-related transition to virtual education occurred during the compilation of the study. The study also noted, however, that systemwide CSU enrollment exceeds the current physical capacity by an average of 17% or 57,300 full-time students. The estimated cost to establish a new campus ranges from billion to billion, with the timeline to develop a new campus estimated at nine years, according to the report. 1528
