There are growing safety concerns about Boeing's best-selling plane, following a second crash involving the plane in less than five months. On Sunday, 157 people died, including 8 Americans, after a Boeing 737 MAX 8 crashed in Ethiopia. In October, 189 died when the same kind of plane crashed into the sea off Indonesia. Investigators are now looking into the similarities. Both jets were Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and both flights crashed shortly after take-off. Pilots on both flights and tried returning to the airport prior to crashing. “Absolutely there are concerns, and the alarms should be and are going off all throughout the aviation industry,” says Mary Schiavo, a former inspector general of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The crashes remain under investigation, and it's not known if any of the same factors contributed to either crash. But out of caution, China and Indonesia have grounded the planes. Some foreign airlines have also suspended the use of the planes. In the U.S., American and Southwest airlines both use the 737 Max 8 planes but are still flying them. “For as long as the airlines continue flying the planes, it's because they feel it's safe,” says aviation expert Seth Kaplan. “There's so much risk here. Not just for safety, but for their businesses.” Today, Boeing issued a statement saying, in part, "… based on the information available, we do not have any basis to issue new guidance to operators." A Customs and Border Patrol station in south Texas has stopped taking detainees in for processing because some people have displayed signs of flu-related illness.Medical staff at the Centralized Processing Center in McAllen on Tuesday identified "a large number" of people in custody that have shown high fevers and signs of the flu, Rod Kise, a spokesman for CBP Rio Grande Valley-Texas said in a statement."To avoid the spread of illness, the Rio Grande Valley Sector has temporarily suspended intake operations at the CPC," Kise said. "Individuals apprehended in RGV Sector will be held at other locations until this situation is resolved."Medical staff is working to treat those in custody before their release, Kise said.A 16-year old boy from Guatemala, who had been detained at the same facility for six days, died on Monday.Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez was apprehended on May 13. He indicated to staff at the processing center that "he was not feeling well" and was seen by a contracted nurse practitioner and prescribed Tamiflu before being transferred to the Weslaco Border Patrol Station on Sunday."He was assessed and determined to have influenza A," according to a CBP official.He was the fifth child known to have died after journeying to the US in recent months from Guatemala and being apprehended by US authorities.< 1353

“I have never in 23 years ran across this!”That's how assistant Bristow, Oklahoma police chief Kendra Raney described what happened in the ladies restroom of Walmart on Tuesday. "A Walmart employee requesting an ambulance for a lady that was inside the women's bathroom either having a miscarriage, or having a baby," Raney said. That 911 call triggered emergency responses from multiple agencies, including police, fire and the Creek County Ambulance service. It sent paramedics racing to help.Raney described what first responders found, stating, "I understand the Walmart employees performed lifesaving measures and when the ambulance got there, they transported them both to a Tulsa Hospital."The Bristow Fire Department report shows it paramedics worked on the baby girl for 17 minutes. They gave her oxygen and cleared her airways. Finally, she took breaths on her own and made a weak cry.Why was the baby was born in the Walmart restroom? "Mom stated that she started having contractions about 2:30 in the morning that morning and she didn't think that they warranted a visit to the hospital," Raney explains. "She got up later, got her kids off to school and felt that she needed to use the restroom, so she stopped at the Walmart which the middle school's right across from the Walmart."Raney says the mother felt some pressure and then the baby came out. We asked how the mother and baby girl are doing now. Then she added, "Both are gonna make it."Raney said, the incident is still under investigation.
