LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KABC) -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore Saturday. The officer was hit by a sedan near Nichols Road at about 4:30 p.m. and airlifted to a hospital, prompting a closure of the southbound lanes. The officer killed was identified by CHP in a social media post as Sgt. Steve Licon. "Our hearts are heavy after the immeasurable loss of a friend, father, husband, and hero," the social media post said. A curfew will begin at 7 p.m. on May 31 and end at 7 a.m. on June 1 for the City of La Mesa. During that time, the city encouraged residents and visitors to shelter in place. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread of a Lakeside brush fire has been stopped, Cal Fire said. The announcement comes after the San Diego Sheriff's Department evacuated 14402-14470 Willow Road as the blaze threatened homes Wednesday afternoon. Evacuations were lifted shortly after 3:30 p.m.According to the Cal Fire, the fire sparked around 12:40 p.m. near the 14000 block of Willow Road.
