SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An El Cajon woman watched in disbelief Sunday night as her Amazon package was stolen by the very people who delivered it. Cheryl Cook broke her ankle over the weekend and ordered a large ice pack off Amazon. She chose same-day delivery so that she could start icing her ankle as soon as possible.Cook was able to track the driver’s location and could see when he had arrived at her home. She says the delivery started off strangely when the driver put the package on the front lawn rather than the porch. He then got back in the car, put his flashers on, and drove a few feet up the street. Moments later, a second person got out of the car and stole the package. “I’m injured, I’m home, I can’t get out my own front door, and then my package is stolen by the guy who dropped it off,” said Cook. She shared the video online and heard similar stories. “I wanted people to know what was going on, there might be other people that have lost packages and wondered where they went, and this was very clear-cut; it went right back in the guy’s car.”In a statement to 10News, Amazon said:“This does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery partners. This individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages, and we have reached out to the customer to make things right.”A spokesperson went on to tell 10News that their Amazon Flex delivery partners are thoroughly vetted through a comprehensive, multi-state criminal background check and a review of their motor vehicle records. They say the person who stole Cook’s package passed their background check and delivered Amazon packages for less than a month. Cook was refunded for the ice pack but says she’ll never get back the time and frustration spent over the matter. 1750

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An attorney for a man charged with killing a South Bay music producer told a jury that her client took steps to dispose of the 28-year-old’s body out of fear of being accused of the murder, but did not actually carry out the brutal stabbing himself. Both the defense and the prosecution gave closing statements Monday in the high-profile murder trial of 54-year-old Timothy John Cook. Cook is charged with killing his Chula Vista housemate, Omar Medina, whose body was found in a 55-gallon drum floating in San Diego Bay in 2017.RELATED: Family of man found in barrel works to find closure, thanks Chula Vista PD for their efforts“Just because someone disposes of somebody, or even if they moved a couple things or tried to clean up a couple things, that does not mean the person killed them,” said deputy public defender Kara Oien. “He was trying to avoid the very predicament that we're in today.”Prosecutors have largely built their case against Cook on evidence of his activities after the murder, saying he launched a “monumental effort” to cover his tracks, clean up blood, and dispose of the body.Deputy District Attorney Cherie Somerville said cell phone evidence and other records show Cook lied about his whereabouts, and surveillance video shows him and co-defendant Derrick Spurgeon hauling the 55-gallon drum to San Diego Bay.RELATED: Man whose body was found in a barrel had been stabbed 66 times; suspect pleads not guiltySpurgeon is charged with being an accessory for allegedly driving the boat used to dump the victim's body. Cook alone is charged with carrying out the stabbing.“Hatred, disrespect, and ultimately cold hard cash” motivated the killing, Somerville said.Prosecutors say Cook was after an ,000 settlement Medina had been awarded and was tired of his sloppy household behavior. The defense is expected to finish closing arguments Tuesday, at which point the jury will begin deliberations. 1949

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested by Border Patrol agents after they reportedly discovered drugs hidden inside her child’s car seat and stroller.Agents say they stopped a 2015 Nissan Sentra at an unspecified location along Interstate 15 on June 12 around 6:15 p.m. The vehicle was driven by a 26-year-old male US citizen. Two women and three minor children were also in the vehicle. After searching the vehicle using a K-9, agents found several packages of drugs wrapped in cellophane and hidden inside one of the children’s car seat and stroller. Border Patrol says a child was sitting in the car seat when the drugs were found. The 23 packages contained methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin valued at 1,680, the agency says. Agents later discovered that the drugs were hidden by one of the female passengers, a 26-year-old US citizen. The woman was arrested and turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office while the three minor children were released into the custody of their 32-year-old aunt. 1023
