Roger Rowe School third-graders Grace Miller and Madison Stine set out to send a veteran to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight San Diego.They were so successful they ended up sending two veterans."That trip for me was the most fantastic trip of my life. I've been all over the world - and Honor Flight was the most fantastic trip I've been on," said George Sousa, a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Army.The girls also helped send U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Marshall Varano who also fought in the Korean War."It's great to see young people like this take care of older folks," said Varano.Fundraising is critical for Honor Flight San Diego. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Escondido Police requested the public’s assistance Monday to find the driver responsible of a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist. The incident happened Oct. 16 at 4:38 p.m. in the 200 block of W. Washington Ave., police said. A man driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the motorcyclist and left the scene, according to investigators. Police said the man was in his late 30s, Hispanic, and had a mustache. He was wearing a gray shirt and baseball cap. There was a woman in the passenger seat and a child sitting between them. The first two digits on the license plate may be 8F. Police said the Ford F-150 will have damage to the rear passenger side tail light and tailgate. (KGTV) — Last week, police arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting at an Escondido movie theater that left one man injured in June.The 20-year-old suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the investigation, was arrested on July 5, Escondido Police said in a release Wednesday. Police then executed a search warrant at the Escondido resident's home.The June 28 shooting occurred at about 8:45 p.m. outside the Regal Cinema on West Valley Parkway. ENCINITAS (CNS) - Construction crews will begin a three-week closure of a section of Chesterfield Drive Wednesday to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety, according to the San Diego Association of Governments. Chesterfield Drive will be closed to drivers in both the eastbound and westbound directions between Coast Highway 101 and San Elijo Avenue. According to SANDAG, the closure will extend through Jan. 23 to complete a new bikeway and pedestrian path, an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk and ramps, new traffic signals and new rail crossing equipment such as signals and gates. During the closure, northbound motorists will be detoured to D Street and southbound motorists will be detoured to Lomas Santa Fe Drive. The intersection will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists during the closure but will be closed to motorists 24 hours per day, seven days a week. According to SANDAG, roughly 17,000 drivers use the intersection each day. The closure is the second phase of improvements to the Chesterfield Drive rail crossing and part of San Diego County's Build NCC (North Coast Corridor) project, a 40-year, 0 million effort to repair and expand vehicle and rail transportation infrastructure around the county. The .2 million Chesterfield Drive project and the Build NCC program are funded by TransNet, the county's half-cent sales tax on transportation, Once completed, the county expects to add 13 miles of new carpool and high-occupancy vehicle freeway lanes, 1 1/2 miles of doubled railroad track, seven miles of bike and pedestrian paths and more than 1,200 acres of restored and preserved coastal habitat land. 1661
