She says Holly is one of the most helpful employees on staff. “It’s really fast and helps us with the speed a lot,” she says.The creator behind this artificial intelligence technology is Valyant. Rob Carpenter, the CEO of the company, says as jobs evolve and change, new jobs become available. As with most new technology, Carpenter says they’re still working out all the kinks. “It’s almost understanding the almost infinite ways to that people can ask for a cheeseburger,” Carpenter explains. “There are also the different accents you have to content with and the background noises.” While customers find the idea of Holly fun, their still unsure. “It was awkward,” says one customer. “And humans are just better and more responsive and talkative.” Carpenter admits Holly isn't the perfect employee, but he says in the next five years, you will see more robots at big name stores and fast-food restaurants."Right now, this is ground zero handling drive through,” he says. “Eventually, we are going to start seeing it in more tangible ways, where it can actually carry on a more fluid conversation." Nearly a year after walking off the job, teachers in West Virginia are going on strike again.Last year, teachers in the state went on strike for nine school days, fighting for higher pay. This year, they’re protesting an education reform bill that would bring charter schools to the state and create education savings accounts parents could use for homeschooling, private schools and other educational costs.Unions are calling it retaliation. "We are taking action,” said Fred Albert, with the West Virginia American Federation of Teachers. “We are left with no other choice.”Tuesday’s strike is just the latest of several strikes nationwide in recent months. Teachers in Denver, Colorado recently went on strike for three days. In Los Angeles, 30,000 teachers went on strike for six days. Teachers in Oakland are set to strike Thursday. At the heart of the strikes are better school funding and higher pay. Experts say the strikes will likely continue. “Once you have educators seeing that when they come together in collective action and they raise their voices together, they're looking around and they're seeing it's not just them,” says Becky Pringle, vice president of the National Education Association. The neighborhood app Nextdoor has gotten a reputation for sometimes strange posts that can prompt mean and off-color responses.There's a whole Twitter account dedicated to examples. Now, Nextdoor has rolled out a new feature to try and keep some civility online. It's called a "Kindness Reminder." If you try and post a response that's similar to one that's been flagged in the past, you'll get a reminder of the community guidelines and that they can change your response. But you can still post what you want. “One of the problems of the age we're living in is that people don't necessarily share a common understanding of what counts as civil interaction,” said Keith Bybee, a professor of law and political science at Syracuse University.Bybee says some people are strategically not civil or just plain rude in order to attract attention. You see it in politics and trolling behavior.
