With many Americans avoiding getting on board passenger jets amid the spread of coronavirus, United Airlines has a plan to continue operating some of its fleet of planes. United Airlines said that it is using some of its largest planes as cargo planes. United Airlines said the flights will be used to carry "critical goods."United said it is using its Boeing 777 and 787 fleet to run 40 charter flights each week, and is looking to add more routes. "Connecting products to people around the world is the United Cargo mission," said United Cargo President Jan Krems. "That role has never been more crucial than during the current crisis. Our team is working around the clock to provide innovative solutions for our customers and support the global community." 771

"Ghosting" — The term is usually reserved in online dating when a prospective date doesn't call or text back. Now, it's being used on prospective employers when new hires don't show up for their first day of work.Liz Blondy has roughly 80 employees covering her various K-9 to 5 pet care locations and says she's fallen victim to a trend of ghosting. "It's strange because it’s like where did they go?" Blondy said.Experts say part of the reason for the sudden disappearing act is actually good news: a stronger economy. "There’s more jobs for people so they have more options, they have more choices," Blondy said. However, the toll the trend takes on those who get ghosted is more than just the equivalent of an emotional rollercoaster. "A lot of these candidates we get really excited about, so to have them not show up can be disappointing and also expensive," Blondy said. "We start with the group interview, we have them come back to do a work assessment. the HR person spends time creating a schedule, the onboarding…we’ve already spent a couple of hundred dollars before they even walk in the door their first day." 1166

YOKOHAMA, Japan. – The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced Tuesday that travel restrictions have been placed on all remaining passengers and crew of the Diamond Princess, the cruise ship quarantined off the coast of Japan because of a COVID-19 outbreak on board. Under the restrictions, the more than 100 United States citizens still on board the ship or in Japanese hospitals will be prevented from returning to the U.S. for at least 14 days after leaving the Diamond Princess. The restrictions apply to the ship’s other passengers and crew as well. “After disembarkation from the Diamond Princess, these passengers and crew will be required to wait 14 days without having symptoms or a positive coronavirus test result before they are permitted to board flights to the United States,” said the CDC in a press release. If an individual from the cruise arrives in the U.S. before the 14-day period ends, the CDC says they will still be subject to a mandatory quarantine until they have completed the 14-day period with no symptoms or positive coronavirus test results. The CDC says there may be additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the remaining passengers on board the Diamond Princess, because of their high-risk exposure. The CDC says these travel restrictions have been put in place to protect the health of the American people. “We continue to believe that the risk of exposure to COVID-19 to the general public in the United States is currently low,” wrote the CDC. “The U.S. Government is taking these measures to protect the Diamond Princess passengers and crew, their loved ones, the traveling public, and communities within the United States.”Sunday night, two charter flights carrying Diamond Princess passengers landed at military bases in California and Texas, starting the clock on another 14-day quarantine period to ensure passengers don’t have the new virus. A total of 14 of those passengers were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. 1980

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Daily life on the cruise ship quarantined off a Japanese port can include fear, excitement and soul-crushing boredom. Passengers on the ship describe cramped rooms and boring food in interviews with The Associated Press and on social media posts. A passenger who caught the worrisome virus initially felt terror but then described surprisingly mild symptoms. With the number of illnesses growing, there's a nagging doubt that quarantining the ship's hundreds of passengers and crew in tight quarters might spread the viral disease more. And for the hundreds of crew members confined to the ship, there's a difficult job to be done. 667
