Democrats are beginning to post fundraising totals for Q2 and numbers show that despite the pandemic, donating to Democratic politicians isn't appearing to take a hit. For example, in Montana, Former Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock announced he has raised .7 million to defeat Republican Sen. Steve Daines, who is also expected to raise millions. Montana is shaping up to be a crucial state for Democrats. Currently, Republicans control 53 seats in the United States Senate. It is looking more likely a Republican will win the Senate race in Alabama which means Republicans will have 54 seats. But they must also defend seats in states like Montana, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia and Maine. Democrats believe it is possible to win five of those races, giving Democrats control. Democrats would also gain control the Senate if they win four of those races and Joe Biden wins the presidency, since the vice oresident casts tie-breaking votes. MONEY TALKS The biggest sign yet that Democrats are focused heavily on the Senate is the race in South Carolina. Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham is up for reelection and his race is generally not seen as a competitive, yet Jaime Harrison, Graham's Democratic challenger, announced he has raised over million. While much focus is being placed on Democrats, Republicans are expected to match Democratic numbers when it is all said and done. Many Republican Senators have worked for years to maintain a "campaign warchest" predicting strong numbers from the Democratic Party. For instance in Colorado, Republican Sen. Cory Gardner is estimated to have over million dollars worth of "cash on hand" available to defend his seat. 1799

INDIANAPOLIS — People from two separate vehicles had to be rescued after their vehicles slid into an Indianapolis retention pond during the icy conditions Monday evening. Crews with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indianapolis Fire Department were called to a retention pond near a shopping center around 6:35 p.m. for a report of two vehicles that went into the water. Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith says the drivers of both vehicles claimed to have hit a patch of ice on a bridge nearby and slid into the retention pond. 599

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Coroner will be releasing the autopsy results to the family of Dreasjon Reed on the same day the family was planning a press conference to demand its release.The 21-year-old man was shot and killed by an IMPD officer following a pursuit on May 6.The Reed family lawyers had requested a copy of the autopsy report, which the Marion County Coroner's Office says was completed on June 12 and then sent to the special prosecutor, but were initially denied their request after the special prosecutor asked that the report not be released.The Reed family had scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. on Aug. 5 outside the Marion County Coroner's Office to demand the report be released.The Marion County Coroner issued a statement just after 10 a.m. saying they had received a decision from the Marion Superior Court that morning authorizing the release of the autopsy report to Reed's mother, Demetree Wynn.After receiving the report from the coroner's office, Wynn still addressed the media gathered at the coroner's office."You can not do what you did to my son and tell me it was right," Wynn said. "I've been a nurse for 20 years and I'm not stupid. Don't insult my intelligence by assuming I don't know how to read. I know what it says. And if it was your child, I promise you, you couldn't stand here.""I can't breathe, my heart hurts. But I'm still standing here and there ain't no way in hell you can do that to somebody else's kid and be okay with it," Wynn said. "If you're okay with it, let me do it to your son and I'm gonna show you how it feels. I promise you that."The Special Prosecutor overseeing the case, Rosemary Khoury, released the following statement following the release of the report."The Marion County Superior Court has ruled to allow the release of the autopsy report by the Marion County Coroner to the family of Dreasjon Reed. We fully anticipate that the family attorney will adhere to the confidentiality requirements set forth by the Indiana Code which prohibits the release of certain information contained in the report. The State has petitioned the Court to allow for the investigation to be completed before releasing the report so that a thorough and complete investigation could be conducted. The investigation is still ongoing and the team respects and will adhere to the Court's decision as it works to provide as comprehensive an investigation as possible."Khoury was appointed as the special prosecutor on June 4. On July 2, the court ordered IMPD and the Marion County lab to turn over all evidence to Indiana State Police. INDIANAPOLIS — It has been quite a journey for Kari Wegg.She had been working tirelessly as a NICU nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for more than 25 years when she found herself fighting for her own life with COVID-19 in that very same hospital.“It’s devastating. I never thought something like this could happen to me,” Wegg said. “It’s been so hard because I was healthy, and I thought if I ever got it, I would be fine.”Wegg first got sick in June and diagnosed with pneumonia. Then in July, she, her husband and two children tested positive for the coronavirus.“I do work in a hospital,” she said. “My husband also works in a hospital. It’s very possible we got it from the hospital.”Her family had mild symptoms and recovered quickly. However, Wegg did not.“It’s been since July since I’ve seen my boys., and I haven’t been able to hug them or love on them, and they miss me so much,” Wegg said.Wegg was put on a heart and lung bypass machine on Aug. 19. She says her doctors discussed removing care.“Their dad had to sit down and tell them their mother might die, and they’ve had to try and cope with that,” she said.But Wegg says her husband wouldn’t give up. Calls were made, and she was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Sept. 5 for a double lung transplant.Northwestern was the first hospital in the country to perform a double lung transplant on a COVID-19 paitnet, and Wegg was only the sixth such patient to undergo the surgery.“I am eternally grateful to the family of my donors,” Wegg said. “I don’t know anything about them or how they died but they gave me the gift of life.”Grateful to be alive, but devastated financially with non-stop medical bills, she suffers in her bed, while her fellow healthcare workers continue the fight. Wegg says she even has coworkers who have died of the virus.Wegg says she's praying that more people take the virus seriously."I’m hoping my message as a nurse who didn’t expect any of this can get out there and bring it home to people who don’t necessarily want to wear a mask or want to isolate themselves or quarantine," Wegg said.
