Zachary Cruz, the younger brother of Parkland, Florida, school shooter Nikolas Cruz, was sentenced Thursday to six months of probation for trespassing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School earlier this month. The younger Cruz was released Thursday afternoon from the Broward County Jail.He was initially jailed on a 0,000 bond, leading his attorney to argue he was being punished because of his older brother, who killed 17 people last month at the school in one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern US history.Under the terms of his probation, Zachary Cruz will wear a GPS monitor and must remain one mile away from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas campus. He is also forbidden from having any contact with victims or family members of the February 14 mass shooting.Cruz, 18, was arrested March 19 on a misdemeanor trespassing charge at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. After his arrest, the younger Cruz told police he wanted to "reflect on the school shooting and soak it in," according to an arrest report.Probation was reached as part of a plea deal in the case. Cruz, shackled and wearing a brown jumpsuit Thursday morning, pleaded no contest to trespassing. His attorney Joseph Kimok had earlier argued that the excessive bond showed Cruz was being punished for his brother's actions."He is being held because of who he is related to, not because of anything that he did," Kimok told Judge Kim Theresa Mollica.Police said he visited the campus at least three times since the school massacre. His attorney filed a motion for his client's release, calling his treatment immoral, reprehensible, unlawful and unconstitutional. There is no evidence that the defendant threatened anyone when arrested, Kimok wrote. 1724

-- less than a half ounce of cannabis. Cashion had less than a gram.In her case, the prosecution couldn't prove she had an illegal substance and the drug charges were dismissed. Cashion's case is one of the first. And she says it sets the stage now for thousands of other Tennesseans caught with small amounts of cannabis to successfully challenge the charges. The TBI maintains it's opposition to legalizing marijuana for any purpose and will continue to seek prosecutions. But, telling the difference between hemp which is legal in Tennessee and illegal marijuana is difficult. State lawmakers are taking notice and are expected to address this issue next legislative session. This story was originally published by Nick Beres at WTVF. 735

child walked out of his daycare classroom in Monroe, Ohio, on Monday, down the hall past the administrative offices and out the front door before a passing stranger found him and took him to his mother. "I'm just thankful the lady stopped and picked him up, and she was a good lady, she wasn't a crazy person," said Candis Coates, the boy's mother. "I was thankful my son knew my name and where I was and his name." The stranger took the young boy, named AJ, to Coates' workplace, where she was working when the incident happened. She said the daycare didn't even realize AJ was missing until she called them about it after her son was brought to her. Coates said her son walked past the kitchen, administrative offices and the front desk before he unlocked a child-sized door and walked out. She said he then sat on a bench in the entry of the daycare for a bit before wandering into a nearby field, with heavy traffic whizzing nearby on Route 4. "My heart broke seeing him in that huge field, and if he would have went one way or the other..." said Lynzie Jestice, who found AJ and returned him to his mother. She's a nurse and a mother of three herself. Her concerns were also warranted; if AJ had gone one way or the other, he could have wandered onto busy Route 4 or, in the other direction, into the four lanes of Roden Park Drive. "I rolled down my window. I was like, 'Hey, buddy, where's your mom?'" said Jestice. Luckily, AJ knew his mother's name and the name of where she worked, which helped Jestice to take him to the right place. "We have strict policies and protocols to ensure the well-being of our children," said Lydia Cisaruk, a spokesperson with Childtime Daycare, in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite our precautions, a situation arose recently in which a child left the premises. The child was unharmed and was reunited with family members. We are taking all appropriate steps to prevent such a situation from happening in the future. We are re-emphasizing our policies and procedures with all staff members to ensure safety protocols are consistently followed. Nothing is more important to us than our children's safety." on their walk to school.Terri Johnson is a substitute crossing guard for Tooele City. This week as the weather has cooled down, she noticed some of the kids walking to school without coats. That’s when she came up with a simple idea to help out.“They’re going to school wrapped in blankets and that’s not enough,” Johnson said. This week she decided to do something about it. She posted on Facebook, asking people to donate coats for the kids.“It was just an idea to post it there and see what would happen; it has just been phenomenal,” Johnson said. She’s already seeing some response from the community, getting several small trash bags full of coats. She said there’s still more kids who need help, and she’s hoping the community will come together for not only the kids in Tooele, but those in other cities too.“I can’t do it by myself, but if you had something in your closet that your kids not wearing anymore, why not help somebody out?" Johnson said.Anyone interested in donating to the cause should 1006
