BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China will hold a series of activities under the title of "Chinese Culture Year" in Italy this year in a bid to advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said here Thursday.Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said the cultural activities are to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Italy.Liu, also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, made the remarks when meeting with Massimo D'Alema, president of the Italianieuropei Foundation and former prime minister of Italy.Liu said, the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership was in good shape, citing frequent high-level exchange, enhanced political mutual trust and expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation.Trade between China and Italy had continued to grow over the years, as each side had benefitted greatly from cooperation in science, technology, environment protection, culture, education and agriculture, he said.Liu said to celebrate 40 years of official ties this year, the countries should advance cooperation and exchanges in the areas of trade, economy, science, technology, education and tourism.D'Alema expressed the wish to further expand Italy-China cooperation in all fields.

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of criminal explosion cases as well as gun crimes in China dropped by 13.4 and 33.1 percent year on year, respectively, in the first five months of 2010, Ministry of Public Security said in a statement Monday.The statement, however, did not provide exact numbers.Police nationwide seized over 351 tonnes of explosives, 1.7 million detonators, 15,000 guns, 1.84 million bullets, 300,000 imitation guns and 170,000 illegal knives since the launching of a national crackdown on illegal explosive and guns, the statement said.The widespread publicity about the police crackdown apparently paid off with 3,099 tips received from the public which led to the solving of 1,538 cases and the arrest of 2,065 suspects, said the statement.Those who provided information to police were rewarded with 960,000 yuan (about 141,000 U.S. dollars) in total, it said.

ISTANBUL, Turkey, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's special representative and State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Tuesday vowed to boost bilateral ties and increase exchanges of visits by leaders and senior officials.Dai met with Gul on the sidelines of the third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA) here. BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top economic planner, refuted on Monday recent reports online saying China is mulling adjustments of electricity prices, claiming such reports "untrue" .The NDRC said in a statement on its website that recently there were reports online saying the NDRC was studying plans to adjust electricity prices, citing Li Jing, deputy head of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection at NDRC. Reports said she has not given the timetable for the plan.The statement further said she never made such remarks to media and the reports were groundless.The NDRC began a rise in the price of electricity for non-residential use by 2.8 fen (0.4 cents) per kwh on average nationwide on November 20 last year, with residential electricity prices unchanged.

People will never forget them," Li said.The exhibition on Aug. 12-16 in Beijing has been jointly held by 28 ministries and organizations, including the ministries of commerce, foreign affairs and finance.
