Trudy was the oldest living western lowland gorilla in a zoo, and she was one of the last "wild caught" gorillas. At the age of 63, she has died in Arkansas. The Little Rock Zoo announced the death of its resident of over 31 years Thursday night. Gorillas like her typically live to be about 40 in the wild and 50 in human care, according to the National Zoo, but Trudy outlived them by more than a decade.Brought to the Little Rock Zoo in 1988 from Buffalo with her breeding partner, Ollie, the two were the first gorillas exhibited in Arkansas, according to the zoo. Most gorillas in zoos now are born in captivity, but Trudy was born in the wild. She was one of the last to be caught and brought into zoo captivity. The western lowland gorilla is the most populous and widespread species of all gorillas, according to the World Wildlife Organization. Even so, their numbers are on the decline, with poaching and disease reducing their numbers by 60% over the last 20 to 25 years, according to the organization. They can be found in Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon. They typically live in groups led by a silverback gorilla, according to the National Zoo, but Trudy bucked tradition.Though she lived with all male groups, zookeepers said Trudy "ruled the roost."She was described as spunky, with a mind of her own. The zoo said she was known for purring when it was time for food or when she saw someone she liked."There are so many memories, stories and anecdotes to share about Trudy. She is a cherished member of the Little Rock Zoo family. To say that she will be missed and that her absence is felt is an understatement. We are glad to know she had a good home with us here," said Little Rock Zoo Director Susan Altrui.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 1881

There was no warning. One moment passengers were sitting at a piano bar on their huge cruise ship slipping through the water off the East Coast and seconds later the ship started tilting. And tilting. And tilting. It went from curious to scary as bottles crashed off shelves and furniture began to slide across the floor. The Norwegian Cruise Line's Escape, a passenger ship capable of cruising with 6,000 people, was pushed suddenly Sunday night by a gust of wind about 115 mph, a burst similar to the wind of a Category 3 hurricane.Several passengers and crew members were injured, the company said Tuesday without giving specific numbers or detailing the nature of injuries. Medical teams on board tended to the injured.About a dozen ambulances were at the port when the ship arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida, on Tuesday morning, 843

Timmothy Pitzen's family, still grappling with the child's disappearance and his mother's suicide, just suffered a painful roller coaster of emotions — all because of an imposter's prank. Why did this happen? And where does the search for Timmothy go now?As more details emerge, many questions linger. But there's one silver lining to this hoax that has gripped the country. Why did a man claim to be Timmothy? When Brian Michael Rini drifted into a Kentucky neighborhood claiming to be Timmothy, he ignited hope that the boy, who vanished at age 6 after his mother killed herself, was found alive and well after almost eight years. But a DNA test showed Rini was an imposter. Now he faces charges of making false statements to federal agents and could face up to eight years in prison.Rini has a history of using other people's identities, his brother Jonathon said. The suspect learned about Timmothy's case after watching a story about him on ABC's "20/20," according to a criminal complaint and affidavit. The affidavit also said Rini "wanted to get away from his own family. When questioned further, Rini stated he wished he had a father like Timmothy's because if he went missing, his father would just keep drinking."Why would someone claim to be a missing child?Jonathon Rini told CNN's "New Day" that his brother had been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and bipolar disorder. "Still, he should have the rational thinking to not do something like this," he said. What happens to the search for Timmothy now? It'll keep going, but authorities are back to square one in trying to figure out where Timmothy is."To be clear, law enforcement has not and will not forget Timmothy, and we hope to one day reunite him with his family," the 1748

Thursday marks Pi Day, otherwise known as 3.14, which marks the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. While the average citizen can easily remember the 3.14 ratio, the exact ratio practically has an infinite amount of numbers. If you want a more precise pi ratio, it is 3.141592653589793238462643383279. How well do you think you could remember just those 30 digits? One man was able to remember the ratio of pi up to 70,000 decimal places. Rajveer Meena accomplished the feat on March 21, 2015 while wearing a blindfold. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Meena's feat took nearly 10 hours to accomplish. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, there are now more than 22 trillion know digits to pi. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, it took a Dell computer nearly 105 days of computation to come up with the large number of digits. This is compared to just 2,000 known digits of pi in the mid-20th century. So how does one remember so many digits? Savant Daniel Tammet, who is able to remember pi's calculation to more than 20,000 digits, told David Letterman, "What I am doing is visualizing numbers." he said. "When you look at a number, you just see the numbers four and three. When I am looking at numbers, I am seeing different colors and shapes and textures. It is called 'synesthesia.' My brain is working in such a way I am looking and also experiencing color. It is two senses combined. "Having a more exact number of pi helps scientists at NASA conduct more precise experiments and calculations. Having more exact figures helps lend precision to projects such as landing rovers on Mars, sending spacecraft into deep space or tracking the movement of asteroids.
