Walmart has a plan to help eliminate the stress shoppers get when waiting in long lines.The company’s new system is called “Check Out with Me.” First, a Walmart associate scans your items with their special, mobile device. Then, they’ll swipe your credit card right there, before handing you the receipt.The process eliminates having to wait in line for a cashier.  Marketing professor Darrin Duber-Smith at MSU Denver says consumers want options, and the main option they want is convenience. He says two companies in constant competition are Walmart and Amazon.Amazon recently announced their plans to open 3,000 brick and mortar stores-- that will be cashierless—by 2021.As for Walmart’s new checkout program, the company plans to position workers in the busiest sections of the store. During Tuesday night's debate, President Donald Trump was asked by moderator Chris Wallace if he would denounce white supremacists and militia groups. When Trump asked which groups specifically, former Vice President Joe Biden mentioned a group called the "Proud Boys."“Proud Boys — stand back and stand by," Trump said.It was hardly a condemnation for a group that is designated as a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It was also Trump's latest attempt to side-step condemning far-right groups, dating back to 2017 when he claimed that there were "fine people on both sides" of racial violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.But who are the "Proud Boys?" And how did they react to Trump's call to "stand by?"Who are the Proud Boys?The group was founded in 2016 by Gavin McInnes, a political commentator and the co-founder of Vice Media. The group existed informally online before McInnes began planning formal meetings in New York through a far-right publication, Taki's Magazine.While the group officially rejects the notion of white supremacy and deny they are part of the "alt-right." They consider themselves "western chauvinists" who want to spread "anti-political correctness."The New Yorker reports that the Proud Boys began distancing themselves from the alt-right in 2017, following the attacks of alt-right members against counter-protesters in Charlottesville."They care about the white race. We care about Western values,” McInnes said.But according to the SPLC, McInnes is a self-described "Islamaphobe" known for continuously making racist, sexist and xenophobic remarks to various media outlets.The Proud Boys also embrace political violence against leftists. The group has battled with Black Lives Matter protesters in Oregon throughout the summer. The New York Times also reports that the group instigated violence against self-described anti-fascists in New York in 2018.How the group responded to Tuesday's debateVice reports that some Proud Boys members took the President's call to "stand back and stand by" as validation to continue battling leftists in Portland. On right-wing message boards like 4chan and on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, members rejoiced and embraced the president's comments.Joe Biggs, who according to NBC News and Vice is a prominent Proud Boys organizer, said as much on the right-wing social network "Parler.""Trump basically said to go f*** them up. This makes me so happy," he wrote. The group also shared several memes that included Trump's comments, and Vice even reports that the group is selling a shirt online that includes the phrase "standing by."Tuesday's debate was held just days after the Proud Boys held a rally in Oregon. Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Players, coaches and staff stayed in Orlando this summer and drastically limited contact with the outside world and other people, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Also this season, players were allowed to put slogans or phrases on their jerseys to highlight causes they support.The league was also the first large sports group to protest playing games in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Instead, many teams and other leagues spent time focused on social justice issues.Blake is a black man who is now recovering at a rehabilitation center after being shot several times in the back by a police officer.So, what can fans expect in the 2021 season?“My sense is there will be some sort of return to normalcy. That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said.As for when the next season will start, Silver says everyone with the league needs a rest, mentally and physically, and they don’t have an exact start date at this time.
