NEW YORK, N.Y. – Legendary television host Regis Philbin has died at the age of 88, People Magazine and ABC News report.According to a family statement obtained by People and ABC, Philbin passed away from natural causes Friday night, one month shy of his 89th birthday.The statement goes on to say that Philbin’s loved ones are forever grateful for the time they got to spend with him, his warmth, his sense of humor and his ability to make every day into something worth talking about.“We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss," the statement ends.For years, Philbin hosted “Live! New research released today from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that vehicular crashes have increased in states where recreational marijuana is legal.The nonprofit organization took crash data from four states where recreational pot is legal: Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Colorado.The findings revealed crashes were up as much as 6 percent, when compared with adjacent states that don't have legalized marijuana.Now, the research doesn't prove marijuana is directly responsible for the increase, but it does show a correlation. The organization’s president says we should all take these numbers as an early warning sign.“The real key is not so much the magnitude of the number as it is the direction we're seeing,” says David Harkey, president at Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “And that we think this is a really good early indicator of the potential issues associated with this policy change of recreational use of marijuana.”There are still a lot of unknowns regarding marijuana in terms of how it affects the human body. For example, when someone is drunk, you can measure their blood alcohol content with a breathalyzer. None of the countries that make up the G20 group of major world economies is on course to adequately reduce climate change, with 82% of the bloc's energy supply still coming from fossil fuels, a new report has warned.Of the countries, only India has set targets that would keep global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, the upper limit recommended by the Paris Climate Agreement, if adopted globally.Overall, the world is heading for a 3.2-degree rise, the organization Climate Transparency said, in an analysis of the G20's current emissions-cutting targets for 2030 published Wednesday.Targets set by the worst offenders -- Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- would lead to a rise of more than 4 degrees if they were adopted worldwide, the report added.The G20 comprises representatives from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.The landmark Paris Agreement, drafted in 2015, resulted in an aim to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels, with 2 degrees set as an upper limit.But the report cautions that those targets are virtually impossible to reach at current rates. It follows similar warnings made last month by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which found that the earth will reach the crucial 1.5 degree threshold as early as 2030."The G20 economies actually need to cut their emissions by half by 2030 to keep warming below 1.5°C," said Jan Burck, senior adviser at equality NGO Germanwatch, one of the report's authors. NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Griffin is stepping down after 12 years as MSNBC president, the first major post-election change in the news industry.NBC Universal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde says Rashida Jones will replace Griffin.Jones, who is currently the head of breaking news at NBC and recently directed the network's coverage of the 2020 election, has been with NBC News for the past seven years.She is the first Black executive to lead a cable news network, and Conde has said increasing diversity is one of his top goals."Rashida is the right person to lead MSNBC forward into a new era," said Conde in a press release.
