After months of protests, sometimes becoming violent, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler announced Thursday that the city is banning the use of tear gas by his city’s police.Wheeler said everyone has an obligation to create change, and now is the time to change the city’s policy on using tear gas.“During the last hundred days Portland, Multnomah County and State Police have all relied on CS gas where there is a threat to life safety,” Wheeler said. “We need something different. We need it now.“Arson, vandalism, and violence are not going to drive change in this community. I expect the police to arrest people who engage in criminal acts. I expect the District Attorney to prosecute those who commit criminal acts. And I expect the rest of the criminal justice system to hold those individuals accountable. We must stand together as a community against violence and for progress.”The issue of using tear gas amid protests has become a legal battle, as demonstrators say that the use of tear gas to disperse a crowd violates their constitutional rights. Amazon announced that some employees would continue to work from home until the middle of next year amid the coronavirus pandemic."The health and safety of our employees is our top priority, and it will be some time before things return to normal," Amazon said in a blog post on its website. Actor Dwayne Johnson is among the investors who submitted a winning bid for the XFL — the professional football league which was in the midst of its first season when the COVID-19 pandemic cut it short.Johnson, Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners combined to purchase the league for million, according to the press release.
