BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China is committed to solving maritime disputes through dialogue and negotiation with countries directly concerned in line with international laws and on the basis of respecting historical facts, Premier Li Keqiang said Monday.

On the basis of a memorandum of understanding signed by Serbia and China, Serbia is ready to seize the crucial opportunity brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative to align the development strategies of the two countries, deepen their pragmatic cooperation and realize common development and prosperity, said the statement.

Xu Liping, a senior research fellow with the National Institute of International Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, stressed that UNCLOS should never be allowed to serve as a tool for certain interest groups to decide on sovereignty-related disputes.

As a country directly concerned, China cares most and is committed to the peace and stability of the South China Sea region, Li said.

It underlines that all nations should raise the awareness that everyone on earth is a member of the community of common destiny, meaning there is a common responsibility to pull together in times of trouble, and strive for common development and lasting peace.
