SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fitness center chain 24 Hour Fitness is permanently closing hundreds of locations across the U.S., including four in San Diego County.The company shut down all of its facilities earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite many states allowing for the reopening of gyms, 24 Hour Fitness “made the difficult decision to close” certain locations.Four San Diego County gyms will be shuttered:Chula Vista (320 Third Ave.)La Jolla (7680 Girard Ave.)San Marcos (641 S. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Mission Hills say someone is back to shining a laser pointer into their homes after a several week hiatusNew video from over the weekend a shows someone pointing a laser into a family’s living room.The laser pointer appears to be coming from the same place as it was back in January when 10News first did the story.Daniel Wang lives in Mission Hills and says his living room turned a blueish green on Friday. “The kids were here so luckily they didn’t look directly at the beam,” said Wang, “that’s the only thing to worry about.”Neighbors have filed a police report, but not much progress has been made because the source of the laser appears to be from a common space in an apartment complex.Doctors say lasers can cause blindness and in some cases induce seizures for those who have epilepsy.Shining a laser into another person’s eyes in California is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 30 days in jail. 955

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy just received a shipment of test strip kits that can detect signs of COVID-19 in the blood."I usually compare it to the blood glucose machine," said Ahmed Eldahmy, an advanced practice pharmacist who owns Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy's two locations in La Jolla and Barrio Logan. "Hopefully in the future this point-of-care testing will be available in every doctor's office, clinic, pharmacy."The kits are allowed by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) as of March 31, 2020. Although he could not yet tell us the name of the company creating the kits, Eldahmy showed them to us and explained how they work to detect if signs of COVID-19 are present in the blood.RELATED: San Diego company gets FDA approval for 30-minute COVID-19 test"These are basically the antibodies that our test is trying to detect," Eldahmy explained while holding the test during a Skype interview. "We take a drop of blood and we put it in this spot at the bottom of the test. This is how we can figure out if the blood sample has the antibody component or not."He said it only takes moments to receive results."You leave it for about 5 to 10 minutes and it will tell you if it's positive or negative," he explained. "There’s only a one or two percent chance that it might not be accurate."RELATED: FDA warns of fake coronavirus home test kitsPeople must fill out a pre-screening questionnaire before receiving the test which asks if they've recently traveled to an area with known spread of COVID-19, if they've come in close contact with someone who tested positive in the last 14 days, if they have a fever greater than 100.4 or lower respiratory illnesses like cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and if they work as a first responder or healthcare worker.The answers will determine if one qualifies for the test."We can send it to a patient in their homes they can do it or we can do it here in our location," said Eldahmy. "We’d rather do it at our location in order to give patients a little bit of guidance or direction. Testing sites will be set up at both pharmacies."We’ll do one day in Barrio Logan and the next day in La Jolla and we will alternate," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of San Diegans are calling on the City Council to take action after they say a decision to let people live in their cars is creating homeless camps in their neighborhoods. Sarah Bonesteel has lived in the Pacific Beach area for 20 years. “It’s ruining the neighborhoods,” Bonesteel. Lately, she says camps of people living in their vehicles are destroying the lifestyle for people who live in the area. “It can be 5 or 6 of them all together on a block. I pay a lot to live here by the beach, and it’s ruining the environment.”It’s been about a month since San Diego’s City Council voted to repeal a decades-old ordinance that prohibited people from living in vehicles on city streets. Now, it’s legal again and some residents aren’t happy about it. “There’s pedophiles close to the schools, we can’t take kids to the library anymore. A lot of people drink and do drugs in their vehicles,” Bonesteel continued. RELATED: City of San Diego allows homeless to live in vehiclesAnd it’s not just the beach towns. Off the 94 near Webster, RVs and giant vans line the street, one even equipped with a satellite dish. Frustrated San Diegans like Bonesteel have even created a coalition to try to fight the change. Residents have been sharing photos and stories, like one woman who says her kids witnessed people beating each other outside a van. Another man says teachers at a local preschool are extremely concerned. In Ocean Beach, one woman captured a photo of a dilapidated school bus. “We’re trying to compile information, pictures of it all, so that we have it documented.”Some people living in their RVs told 10News off camera that they don’t have any other options. But how far has the repeal gone? 10News found people on Airbnb trying to rent out vans with “an ocean view.”“We had joked about them maybe doing that, and then there’s been ads and it’s like holy crap, they’re actually going to rent it out,” Bonesteel said. “This is going too far.”Bonesteel has a message for San Diego’s City Council. “Please think about what you’ve done.”10News tried to reach out to councilmembers about the issue, but haven’t heard back.
