SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --Concertgoers have questions about show refunds with tickets bought from third party vendors.Danny Memeo is one of those people. He went to Kaaboo in Del Mar last year. It was a special time for him and his wife, Kelly.“We got to see Tom Petty right before he died, so we're super thankful,” Memeo said. They had a great time, so decided to go again this year.“So we got the tickets, and then all this stuff happened,” Memeo said.He bought the tickets through Vivid Seats. It cost roughly ,800 for their entire family. “That’s a lot for anybody,” he said.Meanwhile, his family got devastating health news. Kelly’s cancer returned. Danny said her prognosis is not good, with an estimated 12 months left to live.“[We’re] thankful for 12 months, thankful for family,” Danny said. “But wow, what a difficult year for a lot of people.”Back in July, Kaaboo officially announced there would be no event this year. “All pass holders will have the option for a full refund,” said a statement on its website.Because Danny’s family bought tickets through a different site, it’s a different story. As of Monday morning, he did not have any luck getting his money back.“They just said… when it does get rescheduled, you’ll get those tickets and you can sell them if you don’t want them,” Danny said the company told him.Vivid Seat’s website said that if an event is canceled, customers “will receive a Rewards Cash loyalty credit for 110% of the full value of your order total.”For postponements, customers “will need to hold onto [their] tickets for now.”Team 10 contacted Vivid Seats and informed them of the Memeo family’s situation.A spokesperson said they would refund them immediately.“Vivid Seats was happy to refund Kelly. At Vivid Seats we have refunded thousands of orders totaling tens of millions of dollars since the global pandemic shut down all live events in America. We have also provide an over million dollars in extra store credit to customers during this difficult time. As one of the few marketplaces still offering a full cash refund, Vivid Seats is communicating with each consumer once an event is canceled.” 2151

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A gunman suspected of killing a Northern California police officer who pulled him over to investigate if he was driving drunk is in the country illegally, authorities said Thursday.Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said detectives identified the suspect in the slaying of Cpl. Ronil Singh of the small-town Newman Police Department but didn't release his name. The attacker is still on the loose, and he said authorities searching for a second day believe he's still in the area and is armed and dangerous."This suspect ... is in our country illegally. He doesn't belong here. He is a criminal," Christianson said at a news conference.President Trump weighed in on the issue on Twitter. There is right now a full scale manhunt going on in California for an illegal immigrant accused of shooting and killing a police officer during a traffic stop. Time to get tough on Border Security. Build the Wall!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 27, 2018 992

SAN DIEGO (KGTV): In the wake of Starbucks and Disney doing away with plastic straws, environmental groups in San Diego want the city to do the same. The Surfrider Foundation is sponsoring a proposal that the San Diego City Council will vote on in September to require restaurants to only offer straws to customers who request them, instead of giving them out with every drink. They're also pushing for a ban on Styrofoam take-out containers.Natalie Roberts-Decarli, the Interim Executive Director of I Love a Clean San Diego, says her group wants people to be more conscious of the waste they create in their daily lives."Straws kind of fly around easily, they blow away easily, and they're not able to be recycled," she says. "So they end up in our landfills or just litter."At one ocean clean up event last year, I Love a Clean San Diego found 6,000 straws on the coast in just a few hours. Roberts-Decarli says plastic straws are always in the top ten items of trash they find."There's no perfect answer right now. Everyone is still trying to work together to come up with the best solution," she says. Many local restaurants have already taken that step. According to Surfrider, more than 100 restaurants in San Diego County are certified as "Ocean Friendly," meaning they follow a list of criteria for recycling and avoiding plastic. The full list is on their website.Marketing analysts say changes from big companies like Starbucks and Disney mean this will likely spread and expand."It raises the consciousness of consumers and it sets rising expectations in consumers," says Heather Honea, the Chair of San Diego State University's Marketing Department in the Fowler School of Business."By people banning it and having discussions about whether it's bad or good or what does it mean, how does it affect them, it creates top of mind salience that changes people's perspectives on things because they become aware of the topic. And for a moment, they think about it, ponder it and reconcile how they think about it," she says.Environmental groups say making the change would be easy for consumers, who could carry reusable straws in their purses or car glove compartments. They compare it to the reusable grocery bag change that happened in San Diego over the last few years. However, not everyone supports the idea. Some warn that the ban could be discriminatory against people with disabilities, many of whom require straws. Others say it would make it harder for senior citizens or parents of young children. 2537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- San Diego Pride festivities kicked off in the Hillcrest neighborhood Friday afternoon at the iconic Gay Pride Flag on University Ave. and Normal St. Thousands celebrated this year's theme, Stonewall 50: A Legacy of Liberation. The Glitz and Glam and the fabulous outfits at Pride are a product of dark times. "In 1969, being gay was considered a mental illness," San Diego Pride Executive Director Fernando Lopez said. "And the LGBT community was persecuted and prosecuted through legal and social systemic oppression and discrimination."In the summer of 1969, New York Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a place known as a safe spot for the LGBT community. Veronica Zerrer remembers watching the violence on the news. "When Stonewall happened, I was 12 years old, and I was just hitting puberty," Zerrer said. It was a turning point in her life because back then, she says she was hiding. "My name was Ronald," Zerrer said. "In fact, I have a really interesting story. I grew up being called Ronnie."Ronnie served in the U.S. Army for two decades and retired as a Major. The next year in 1999, Ronnie became Veronica. "Before I came out, I tried to be the person that I thought my family and society thought I should be, instead of what was inside my heart," Zerrer said.Fifty years later, San Diego Pride is honoring the rioters at Stonewall, who stood up against police prejudice. "This year, we are 'Stonewall 50: A legacy of liberation.' And the celebrations today, tomorrow and all weekend long are really going to reflect back in honor of our Stonewall generation. We'll talk about the legacy that we are all a part of, and what we need to do to recommit ourselves for the next generation," Lopez said. It is a big 'thank you' to their courage that inspired future generations. "Because you're not allowed by society to be who you really are, you have to almost 'perform' gender. Whereas right now, I'm expressing my gender," Zerrer said.  1976
