On Wednesday, Facebook announced that it launched a million grant program to support Black-owned businesses.Back in June, the social media giant committed a 0 million investment that was aimed at helping U.S. Black-owned businesses, creators, and nonprofits.On Wednesday, the company began accepting applications for the grants.To apply for a grant, the company must be a majority Black-owned for-profit business, have less than 50 employees, been in business for over a year, and experienced challenges from COVID-19, Facebook said.The grants comprise of ,500 in cash and ,500 in optional advertising credits to use on Facebook. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Oceanside city officials are asking for developers to submit their bids to create an "iconic" downtown sign for the city, similar to areas of the county like the Gaslamp District, North Park, and Escondido.The city's request for proposals calls for a sign that will act as a new landmark and "the heart of the Sunset Market" at the intersection of Tremont Street and Pier View Way.The sign must be an "over-the-road" style sign that spans the intersection and aims to, "create a 'place' that locals and visitors are invited to enjoy for decades to come," the city says.Candidates can submit an initial design by January 13, 2021. The top five candidates will be granted ,000 and four weeks to flesh out their designs, budget, and other aspects. The city's Property and Business Improvement District will then choose the best three to go before a public vote. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — After a decade of delays, the Oceanside Beach Resort is weeks away from construction.The initial approval for the project happened 13 years ago when the City of Oceanside selected the developer. The project is located near the small white beach home featured in the movie Top Gun. 10News talked with Senior Vice President of S.D. Malkin Properties, Jeremy Cohen, who said they ran into many roadblocks along the way."We faced a lawsuit, we won, it was appealed, and we won that, and that kind of brought us to where we are today," said Cohen.The lawsuit claimed the program the city uses to share hotel taxes and support the development violated the state constitution. Along with a drawn-out lawsuit, they also were pushed back by the Great Recession and a period of delays in redevelopment across California.Cohen tells 10News, “Although it had been done dozens of times in the state before, it was the first time it was challenged. The court found it was completely constitutional, completely acceptable, and so it just delayed us for three years."Construction is now set to start in December 2018, just before the new year. “There will be a couple of months of excavation; then you’ll see a concrete superstructure, about six or seven stories,” Cohen detailed.The parking for the beach resort will be relocated to an underground garage. As far as the Top Gun house is concerned, it will be completely taken off the property. Historians will preserve the exterior and Cohen will update the inside.“We’re looking at it as a really special kind of ice cream place so everyone can come in and get a 'top cone' from the Top Gun house," Cohen said. 1674

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested in Oceanside after trying to smuggle methamphetamine with her 7-year-old in the car. Border Patrol agents pulled the woman over near the Oceanside Harbor Interstate 5 exit just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. After becoming suspicious of the driver’s behavior, agents found more than 48 pounds of the drug inside a duffle bag in the trunk.
