Scenes of chaos erupted at Hong Kong's airport on Tuesday evening as riot police clashed with protesters who continued to block security gates at one of the world's largest travel hubs. The police made their first significant appearance at the airport since protests began there five days ago, with at least five police buses arriving at the airport after 10:30 p.m.Protestors scrambled to set up barricades as police officers left the buses and entered the airport. Riot police appeared soon after, amassing outside the airport terminal and clashing with demonstrators. The violence came after Hong Kong's Airport Authority announced that all check-in services would be suspended for another night, due to terminal operations being "seriously disrupted.""Members of the public are advised not to come to the airport," the authority said in a statement. All outbound flights which have not yet completed the check-in process have been canceled. 954

Target customers were forced to wait several hours on Saturday as a glitch caused registers from coast to coast to shut down. Target said in a statement that an "internal technology issue" was to blame for the nationwide outage that lasted two hours. "Target’s registers are fully back online and guests are able to purchase their merchandise again in all stores. The temporary outage earlier today was the result of an internal technology issue that lasted for approximately two hours," the company said. "Our technology team worked quickly to identify and fix the issue, and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused for our guests. After an initial but thorough review, we can confirm that this was not a data breach or security-related issue, and no guest information was compromised at any time. We appreciate all of our store team members who worked quickly to assist guests and thank everyone involved for their patience."Target Corporate earlier tweeted its apologies for the inconvenience and said its "teams are troubleshooting now." 1076

Sadly, many states and organizations are curtailing summer camps to stop the spread of COVID-19. While a traditional summer camp might not be an option for you, with some planning and creativity, there's still plenty of options and plenty of things you can do to bring the summer camp to you.Naomi Colliver is a mom who confronts summer head on. For the past six years, she's held her own summer camp. She even created a spreadsheet of weekly themes with activities, games, food ideas, and themed educational videos. “I knew that if we didn’t have some sort of structure, we would watch TV all day and easily get sucked in,” Colliver said. “We’re doing a traveling with the band week; we picked 5 different cities that have different styles of music, we’re going to learn about the city listen to the music, make some instruments.”It all started when she would post the things she would do with her kids on Instagram. “As the young-ins do, they hashtag everything,” Colliver said.On a whim, Colliver began using the hashtag #CampColliver on social media. The Camp Colliver name stuck. Colliver said friends “would constantly call me out and say what’s happening at camp Colliver today when can I drop my kid off at Camp Colliver? I’m not taking any more I’m just sharing what we’re doing.” Some of the things they're doing include a “mess-tival,” like festival, but a huge mess. She even fills a baby pool with spaghetti.At-home option for parentsBut if you're not the kind of parent with a Google Doc summer camp, try 1531

SANTA FE, N.M. – George R.R. Martin, the author of the books that inspired the TV show “Game of Thrones,” says he’s practicing social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic. Martin provided the update to his fans in a blog post Tuesday, saying that he’s spending the time at his Santa Fe home writing the next book in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series. “Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day,” he wrote. “Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.” As a 71-year-old man, Martin is in high risk age group for COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. However, he says he’s taking the necessary precautions. “For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition,” he wrote. “But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions. I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going into town or seeing anyone.”Martin, one of the most celebrated fantasy writers, went on to say that he can’t help feeling as if we are living in a science fiction novel.“But not, alas, the sort of science fiction novel that I dreamed of living in when I was a kid, the one with the cities on the Moon, colonies on Mars, household robots programmed with the Three Laws, and flying cars,” wrote Martin, :I never liked the pandemic stories half so well…”The writer also provided updates on the status of his businesses, including his bookstore, art installation and theater, as well as his nonprofit. 1674
