SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A chlorine spill that prompted evacuations in University City was contained Monday evening. 30 gallons of chlorine spilled in the pump room of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center's Friedenburg Pool about 3:30 p.m. on Executive Drive at Regents Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Just after 4 p.m., the department said about 40 children were sheltered in place while crews developed a plan to mitigate the situation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A cold-case murder shrouded in mystery for decades just led investigators across the country, straight to a San Diego man. In June of 1984, 15-year-old Reesa Trexler was found naked, raped and stabbed to death in her grandparents' home in Salisbury, outside Charlotte, N.C. For more than 35 years there were few answers. Last year, Trexler's younger sister, Jodie Laird, appeared on the Dr. Phil show to quash long-held speculation that she was the killer. The big break was DNA evidence uploaded to a public genealogy website, which pointed to a suspect. According to search warrants obtained by WBTV, the suspect was Curtis Edward Blair, who was still living in San Diego when he died of heart failure in 2004. His body was exhumed from his grave in North Carolina for DNA samples, before police closed the case. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A classic Corvette nearly careened into a family's home Friday night, with a teenager behind the wheel. "Oh yea, we were just on the other side of the wall that she was just inches from hitting," said Tyler Churchill. El Cajon police say the 16-year-old driver was probably driving too fast down the hill."We have a lot of really nice cars that live up the street," Churchill said. "They come flying by all the time."She lost control, ending up with the car backward and on top of some cement blocks.Churchill and his family came running out when they heard the crash."We were all just hanging in the garage," he said. "I was changing a dirt bike tire, we heard a really long screech and a kind of gnarly crash, and we couldn't see anything because it was really dusty."Thankfully, the driver and everyone else made it out okay. "The first thing we did was run out and make sure she was ok," Churchill said. "I just can't believe she came down that driveway, missed cars by a few inches, missed my house by a few inches, I mean it was really just inches from everything, it was crazy." 1128

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at cemeteries around the county Saturday to honor the military veterans buried there.The ceremonies are part of the larger Wreaths Across America project.More than 1,000 cemeteries across the country participated, including Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. According to Wreaths Across America, the events are an effort to preserve the memory of military veterans and teach children about the sacrifices they make and have made."Each and every wreath is a gift from an appreciative person or family who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy," said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester. "We are so humbled that the community of San Diego is participating in our mission to remember, honor and teach."Starting at 9 a.m. at each cemetery, active-duty military members, military veterans, military families and local volunteers laid balsam fir wreaths on graves at Fort Rosecrans and Miramar National Cemeteries, Greenwood Memorial Park, Valley Center Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery.
