(AP) — The Trump administration plans to lift endangered species protections for gray wolves across most of the nation by the end of the year. “We’re working hard to have this done by the end of the year and I’d say it’s very imminent,” Aurelia Skipwith, the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday.More than 6,000 wolves now roam portions of the western Great Lakes and northern Rocky Mountains. The Fish and Wildlife Service last year proposed dropping the wolf from the endangered list in the lower 48 states, exempting a small population of Mexican wolves in the Southwest. TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted six men on charges of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.In October, the men were arrested in what authorities describe as a plot by anti-government extremists angry over the Democratic governor's policies to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge announced in a statement that the indictment was handed down Wednesday.According to an indictment released Thursday, Adam Fox, Brandon Caserta, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, and Daniel Harris, all of Michigan, and Barry Croft of Delaware, allegedly began to plan the kidnapping last summer.According to the indictment, they allegedly conducted surveillance of Whitmer's rural vacation home and practicing the use of firearms and explosives.On August 23, Garbin, Franks, and Caserta met up with Harris near his residence in Lake Orion, Michigan, to examine each other’s identification documents to make sure they weren't undercover law enforcement agents or informants, according to the affidavit.WXYZ reports that federal agents were infiltrated among the group as either confidential informants and undercover FBI agents.According to the indictment, Fox ordered ,000 worth of explosives from an undercover agent in September.Fox also ordered a taser in October, WXYZ reported. Fox was also photographed at the governor's summer home drawing a map of the property.According to WXYZ, Fox, Garbin, Franks, and Harris were arrested after showing up in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to pay the undercover FBI agent posing as a co-conspirator for the explosives. Three men pleaded not guilty to the charges they face in connection with the death of Ahmaud Arbery in February. Gregory and Travis McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan Jr. all make their pleas Friday morning via video conference. However, the issue that got more attention at the hearing was masks. Bryan's attorney, Kevin Gough, began his client's portion of the hearing discussing masks. He asked for clarification if Bryan had to wear a mask while appearing remotely at the jail. Since he was distanced from others in the jail's video conference room, the judge clarified that he was allowed to remove it. Gough then raised an objection, saying he thought wearing masks referencing George Floyd in the courtroom was a political statement. He was referencing the Arbery family attorney who was sitting in the courtroom. "I do not see masks as being a political statement,” Chatham County superior court judge Timothy Walmsley responded, saying masks were required by public health guidelines and he wore one when he took the bench. "The courtroom is not a place for political statements, not a place for outbursts," he continued, saying if any behavior or actions by anyone in the courtroom becomes disruptive, it will be dealt with. “This is not the place to make a statement," Judge Walmsley said. Gregory and Travis McMichael were arrested on May 7 for the February 23 shooting death of Arbery outside of Brunswick, Georgia. Greg McMichael told police he suspected Arbery was a burglar and that Arbery attacked his son before being shot.Arbery was running in a neighborhood at the time. In the charging documents, prosecutors allege the McMichaels chased Arbery before shooting him. Three people were found dead in a New Jersey pool on Monday after a drowning, officials said.The youngest victim was an 8-year-old girl, a police lieutenant said. Her 32-year-old mother's body was also found in the above-ground pool at the East Brunswick home.Police said a 62-year-old man's body was also found in the pool. His exact relationship to the other victims is not year clear, but he is believed to be a family member.Officers rushed to the home after a 911 call around 4:15 p.m. A neighbor heard screaming.Police believe the mother was inside the pool screaming for help.All three victims were pronounced deceased in the backyard.WPIX's Jay Dow was first to report the story. 695
