Sitting in the front seat of his white Ryder semi-truck, Graig Morin often has some of the best views of Maine as he crisscrosses the state making deliveries. But the best seat in this cab belongs to his dog, Lilly.Morin is the owner of Brown Dog Carriers in Biddeford, Maine, where dogs aren’t just a part of the company name, they’re part of the payroll.“My wife got her when she was a puppy. She’s 12-years-old now,” Morin said looking at Lilly, a chocolate lab, whose front whiskers have started growing gray with time.Lilly likely does not know that an entire business is named after her, but she has provided plenty of company over the years. Morin estimates the pair has traveled the better part of 500,000 miles together. She’s become such a fixture in his passenger seat that customers often wonder when she’s not around.“A lot of time at deliveries I’ll get, ‘Where’s the dog?’” he added. These days, the trips have become more frequent. In the spring, Morin and Lilly started seeing a massive uptick in business. Deliveries were skyrocketing with people quarantined at home. At the same time, though, Morin also saw other small businesses struggling and wanted to help.“Why not? If everyone that could, did, we’d live in a much better world,” he said about the company’s response. With the extra money they were making, Brown Dog would give out free coffee to first responders. They've been moving folding chairs to area hospitals that needed them and have helped local manufacturers transport their donations to the COVID-19 response. They called it The Helping PAW campaign.Morin’s hope is that other companies that aren't struggling right now will see what they're doing and find their own ways to help.“I would say anyone that is doing well and making their way through it, try to help somebody else,” he said. 1830

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - An art gallery in Solana Beach is taking drastic measures to try and survive the coronavirus pandemic.Exclusive Collections is holding it's first ever sale on fine art, offering paintings and more for as much as 50% off."You know art doesn't really go on sale," says owner Ruth-Ann Thorn. "But here we are in this time where you have to do what you have to do to keep the doors open."Thorn has been collecting art for 25 years, often buying pieces from artists who hold shows in her gallery. While her shop was closed during the Pademic, she made the difficult decision to go through her warehouse and see what she could sell."I got very emotional, and I almost broke down," Thorn says. "We needed to make some very serious decisions on how we're going to keep the doors open. And it requires a sacrifice to let go of these things."Thorn says her sale offers even non-collectors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase an investment piece. She's hopeful she'll sell enough to make ends meet until business picks back up."If you've never bought art before you're gonna get you know the deal of a century," she says.Exclusive Collections gallery is open from noon to 5 pm every day. They are also selling and holding auctions of some of the art on their website. 1303

Sexting among teens and younger children has increased over the past decade and poses a growing challenge for educators and parents, according to a new study. One in four young people said they'd received sexts, and one in seven reported sending them, according to the study, which was published Monday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. The research included data from 39 separate research projects conducted between January 1990 and June 2016, with a total of 110,380 participants, all of whom were under 18 -- with some as young as 11.The researchers focused on data since 2008 and found an increase in sexting among young people. The increased number of young people involved in sending or receiving sexually explicit photographs or messages has corresponded with rapidly expanding access to cell phones. With that trend in mind, the study's authors suggest that "age specific information on sexting and its potential consequences should regularly be provided as a component of sex education."Why sext? 1013

Special counsel Robert Mueller has requested documents and information covering a range of events from President Donald Trump's White House, including two firings and an Oval Office meeting, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.Mueller's investigators are looking for documents and emails relating to the dismissals of national security adviser Michael Flynn and FBI director James Comey, according to the sources. In addition, one source confirms that Mueller's team wants information connected to the Oval Office meeting Trump had with Russian officials in which he bragged about firing Comey, saying it eased pressure on his White House. 653

Some voters in a North Florida county hit hard by Hurricane Michael submitted their ballots by fax and email -- a practice that runs afoul of guidance issued by Florida election officials in October.Bay County Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen told CNN that he and his staff had worked with 158 voters displaced by Michael to allow them to cast ballots by email and fax, despite the Florida Department of State saying that voting by fax or email "is not an option."Andersen said, "That was the only method available to voters that were displaced from the hurricane.""We would send them a ballot via email just like we would to the extent with our overseas voters. They would get it, they would vote it; 147 of them actually faxed it back to us after they voted it," he said. Eleven were sent back over email, he said."No one cast a ballot that shouldn't have cast a ballot," Andersen said.Because of the hurricane's destruction, "Some (voters) don't have homes -- some of my staff don't have homes that worked this election -- so I think the important part (is) to realize that we actually were able to pull off a successful election with checks and balances," Andersen said.On Oct. 18, Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued an executive order?allowing the supervisors of elections in counties severely affected by Hurricane Michael to extend early voting and vote-by-mail options. A few weeks before the general election on Nov. 6, Hurricane Michael slammed into Florida as a Category 4 storm, devastating communities.A press release from the Florida Department of State on Oct. 18 outlined the plan to extend early voting and vote-by-mail, and also said: "Voting by fax or email is not an option under the Executive Order.""In the hardest hit areas, communication via phone, fax and email remains challenging and would be an unreliable method for returning ballots," the statement from the department continued. "Additionally, past attempts by other states to allow voters impacted by natural disasters to fax or email ballots have been rife with issues."Republicans, including Rick Scott and President Donald Trump, have alleged that there is "fraud" in the state's election process, despite repeated denials from the Florida Department of State. The accusations have been leveled at the Democratic counties of Palm Beach and Broward. Bay County is a Republican county."I'm quite perplexed that people are very energetic in trying to stop people from casting their ballot, given the devastation that this county has experienced," Andersen told CNN.Andersen told CNN he had made Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner aware of his intentions before Election Day, and that Detzner had responded by saying, "You're the supervisor of elections of this county, and you do what you feel is in the best interest of your Bay County voters."A spokesperson for the Florida Department of State, Sarah Revell, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on that claim. In a more general statement, Revell told CNN, "The Florida Department of State has received reports that the Bay County supervisor of elections allowed some voters to return their ballots via email and fax."Revell continued, "Supervisors of elections are independently elected constitutional officers and it is each supervisor's responsibility to adhere to the law at all times."Andersen told CNN, "I don't believe that I broke anything as far as the requirement and charge of my office to ensure the voter the opportunity to cast a ballot." 3529
