A Yup'ik elder born to nomadic parents in western Alaska just after the start of the Great Depression has become the first person counted in the 2020 Census. Lizzie Chimiugak was honored during a ceremony Tuesday at the school in Toksook Bay, just off Alaska's western coast in the Bering Sea. "It says 'Yogas chitta vritti nirodhah' – which means 'Yoga is stilling the fluctuations of the mind.' Yoga is the calming down of the turnings of the mind."According to licensed professional counselor Calyn Crow, yoga is an excellent practice for mental health. She says the deep breathing alone can offer someone a sense of peace and help them to remain in the present moment."It focuses on your breathing, it helps you get back into your body, it helps you set an intention, and I'm a big believer that what you focus on gets bigger," Counselor Calyn Crow said.That's why Crow says it's essential to focus on the positive instead of the doom and gloom. Nonetheless, it's clear this virus and the disease it causes are at the forefront of everyone's minds."I've been talking about it with just about everybody in every single session," Crow said.Mental health wellness can be challenging when we're stuck at home, potentially without a job, and facing so many unknowns about the future. However, Crow says there are steps we can take to keep our minds at ease. It comes down to our basic needs."Eating foods that are good for your brain and your body, getting enough sleep, getting enough rest is important."Crow says it's also essential to know when you need to take a break and maybe go for a walk. Time outside in the sunshine can make a big difference when you're feeling down. It may also help to know you're not alone in your feelings, and it's ok to be feeling sad or anxious."We all experience these types of thought processes and thinking when we're under stress. It's just natural for our bodies to go into that flight or fight mode," Crow said.Crow says it's a matter of whether you're able to re-calibrate your thoughts and go back to a natural state of mental well-being. For some people, that's not so easy. So now is a critical time to offer friends and family members extra patience, forgiveness, and grace. Even if we feel out of control right now, those are qualities we can control."You are in control of how you respond to the people in your world. You are in control of what you're thinking, the stuff that comes out of your mouth, how you impact other people."In the end, you know your body best and what it needs. For Leathers, yoga is a practice that feeds her mental well-being, and she'll continue offering online classes until we can all meet in person again. "We don't know if this is something that's going to be happening for two weeks, eight weeks or a few months," Leathers said. "So what we have to do is take this long-term view and start implementing tactics that will maintain this strong level of mental health for us right now. American Airlines now won't use its fleet of Boeing 737 Max planes any time this summer.The world's largest airline, which has 24 of the 737 Max jets in its fleet, said it is canceling about 115 flights a day through September 3 as a result of the grounding. It previously had canceled flights through August 19. The plane was grounded in mid-March after two fatal crashes, putting focus on a particular safety feature on the plane.American's canceled flights are the most extensive among US airlines. Southwest, which has 34 of the 737 Max jets in its fleet, has canceled flights only through August 5 at this time. United Airlines' cancellations also run into August.Not all of the American flights scheduled to be flown by the 737 Max will be canceled outright. Some will be flown with other aircraft. American is also canceling some flights scheduled to be flown by different aircraft, such as the original 737, to shift those resources to other flights.American said it is adjusting its schedules to affect the fewest number of passengers possible, and passengers whose flights are canceled will be able to rebook at no cost or get a full refund if they don't wish to take their trip.The 115 flights and 24 planes represent about 2% of American's overall operations. The airline operates about 6,800 flights a day during the busy summer travel season, including those flown for it by regional feeder airlines. Its mainline operations include a total of more than 900 aircraft.Late summer is one of the busiest times of the year for air travel, so the lost flights will hurt the airline — although Boeing is expecting to find ways to compensate airlines hurt by the Max grounding. It is seeking to win approval for a software fix that is designed to address the automatic safety feature that is the focus of the investigation into the two fatal crashes."American Airlines remains confident that impending software updates to the Boeing 737 MAX, along with the new training elements Boeing is developing ... will lead to recertification of the aircraft soon," American said in its statement. Often, what looks like a free offer has fine print that results in a consumer getting unwanted products which are charged to your debit or credit cards.The internet and social media are filled with "free trial" offers promising you a chance to get a free product for a small shipping charge.However, the BBB found that many times people are not reading the fine print, which can be misleading and says a person is actually subscribing to receive products over time.Some New York victims have lost hundreds of dollars. And the problem is growing.
