Members of the LGBTQ community have taken over the Proud Boys hashtag on social media to send a message to the far-right group.The Proud Boys gained widespread media attention following last week’s presidential debate, during which President Donald Trump refused to condemn white supremacists. Though, he did denounce them two days later, amid mounting outrage.“I’ve said it many times, let me be clear again, I condemn the KKK. I condemn all white supremacists. I condemn the Proud Boys," Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity. "I don’t know much about the Proud Boys, almost nothing, but I condemn that.”It’s unclear who came up with the idea to reclaim “#ProudBoys,” but it seems the effort picked up steam when actor George Takei tweeted about it on Thursday.“I wonder if the BTS and TikTok kids can help LGBTs with this,” tweeted Takei. “What if gay guys took pictures of themselves making out with each other or doing very gay things, then tagged themselves with #ProudBoys. Lucy Hernandez says she struggles to wake up every morning. The Chicago fall weather makes battling her depression even harder. The sound of her alarm reminds her that she needs to get out of bed and help her daughter start her virtual learning class.“I have been working in the company for 20 years," Hernandez said. “It's like one day you come to work, and they tell you, ‘We don’t have a job for you.’ It is stressful. I have been going through depression.”A recent Pew Hispanic survey shows that U.S. Latinos are among the hardest hit by pay cuts and job losses because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hernandez says it could get worse for her family.“My husband works at a hotel and his place is open, but who knows what is coming,” said Hernandez.Hernandez says her layoff has changed her perspective about the presidential election and will vote for the person who she thinks will bring back jobs.While hotel workers like Hernandez struggle to find a job, employees at Mi Tierra Restaurant work diligently to make sure every customer is pleased with their service. Prisila Fuentes manages the family business and knows that no restaurant is safe during the COVID-19 pandemic."It’s been a struggle,” Fuentes said. “We have been getting back to what we were pre-COVID-19, but it’s a long way from what we had before.”The Fuentes family made the tough decision and closed their doors in April to strategize.More than half of their employees were laid off for a month, but they were later called back.Fuentes says that her recent business struggles will be factors when voting for the next president. She has not committed to either candidate and hopes to get more clarity on their plans for the economy, an issue that for many Latinos is the bottom line in this election. 1777

Microsoft took legal steps to dismantle a system that has allowed criminal hackers to infect more than a million computing devices since 2016, in order to protect the 2020 election.The technology company obtained a court order from a federal judge in Virginia that gives Microsoft control of the Trickbot botnet.Microsoft, along with partners around the world, were able to make it so those operating Trickbot cannot initiate new infections or activate ransomware already in computer systems.Trickbot botnet is a global network believed to be run by Russian-speaking criminals, and is “one of the world’s most infamous botnets and prolific distributors of ransomware” according to a blog post by Tom Burt, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft.Burt says ransomware is “one of the largest threats to the upcoming elections,” and can be used to “infect a computer system used to maintain voter rolls or report on election-night results, seizing those systems at a prescribed hour optimised to sow chaos and distrust.”The move by Microsoft represents a “new legal approach” the company says they are using for the first time.In addition to protecting election systems, Microsoft says dismantling Trickbot will also protect financial services institutions, government agencies, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and other businesses subject to malware infections. 1382

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Sunday evening measures to try and slow the growing spread of COVID-19 in her state.In a press conference Sunday evening, Whitmer and state health officials announced a "Three-Week Pause" aimed at mitigating the spread of the virus.Between Nov. 18 and Dec. 8, the state will mandate that the following operations be closed:In-person learning at high schools, colleges and universitiesTheaters, stadiums and arenasAll who are able to work from home will be required to do soDine-in restaurants and barsOrganized sports, except professional sportsBowling centers, ice skating, indoor water parksBingo halls, casinos, arcadesGroup fitness classesSeveral businesses will remain open, according to the state, including:Hair salons, barbershops and other "personal services"Gyms and pools for individual exerciseRetail storesPreschool through 8th gradeChildcarePublic transitManufacturing, construction, other work that is impossible to do remotelyThe state is also putting restrictions on private gatherings — indoor gatherings are limited to two households and 10 people, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people.“In the spring, we listened to public health experts, stomped the curve, and saved thousands of lives together.
