SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Marcos man had to rush his small dog to the hospital after the animal was bitten by a rattlesnake that somehow managed to get into the home.Ross Margolin says he came home to feed his five dogs when he heard the dogs in the other room barking at something.When he walked into the kitchen, he says he heard the unmistakable rattle. Margolin quickly called a company that specialized in getting snakes out of the house.The man who came to collect the rattlesnake was able to quickly get the two and a half foot long reptile out of the home. Margolin says he later noticed one of his dogs was bitten by the snake.Fortunately, Margolin says his dog quickly recovered after being rushed to the animal hospital for treatment. Margolin says the snake was able to get into the home through an open sliding door.  857

Seattle police have moved in to break up the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) after Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order early Wednesday morning declaring the gathering illegal.According to the Seattle Times and KOMO-TV, about a dozen protesters were arrested Wednesday morning as police ordered those present to leave the area.Demonstrators have occupied the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle for about three weeks. The protesters moved in earlier this month after police abandoned the department's East Precinct — which is located in the neighborhood — over fears of riots.While the occupation was largely peaceful for several weeks, the area has seen four shootings since June 20, some of them deadly.The protests began in the wake of the death of George Floyd, and were part of a nationwide protest movement against systemic racism and police brutality.Last month, CHOP leadership released a list of demands calling for the abolishment of the Seattle Police Department, a retrial for all people of color serving prison sentences for violent crime and the de-gentrification of the city, among other demands. 1138

(KGTV) — The City of San Marcos is taking action after 10News highlighted concerns by residents in a senior community who said their homes were at greater risk of a wildfire because of untrimmed brush near a creekbed.The city has cleared brush every year along Discovery Road near Lakeview Mobile Estates, but with an upcoming road-widening project scheduled for the area, the city initially told residents it would delay brush trimming along the San Marcos Creek until crews begin grading work, according to HOA Vice President Jim Woodard.That work is scheduled to begin in December."To save a few dollars and put us in this kind of risk, we're completely vulnerable," he said. "It's just a ticking timebomb."The brush, which is now taller than six feet in some spots, is just a few feet from the mobile home community's entrance."This is the only way in and out of the park, so if there's a fire on this side of the park, we're trapped," Woodard said.Resident Lee Katola said many of her neighbors are disabled and would have difficulty evacuating during a fire."I'm fearful. I'm fearful," she said.Woodard added, "It's perfect fuel for a fire. One spark coming over from that grass hits that fence, and we're toast."San Marcos Communications Manager Robin Rockey said the city was aware of the concerns."The City of San Marcos Fire Department spoke with residents at Lakeview Mobile Estates and is working to address their concerns and clear brush along Discovery Street," said Rockey. "The fire department is working on setting a time for the next clearing."Late Thursday, Rockey said the city would clear the brush by Wednesday of next week.The 214-acre San Marcos Creek Project will include two new bridges, a park, and will widen Discovery Road to four lanes. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — A man was killed after their pickup truck crashed into a brick wall early Wednesday morning.At about 2:56 a.m., a black Dodge Dakota pickup truck veered off of N. Las Posas Road, south of the intersection of Avenida Azul, crashed into a brick wall in the center median, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said.SDSO investigators say it's unclear why the vehicle left the roadway.The 68-year-old male driver, who was the only person in the truck, was pronounced deceased at the scene.It's unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor. 566
