JINAN, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12,000 soldiers and officers from China's air defense force are scheduled to conduct a five-day military exercise in two provinces from Tuesday, a source from the the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Jinan Military Command said Monday.The military exercise, code-named "Vanguard-2010", will be carried out in the provinces of Henan and Shandong and is an important part of annual joint military exercises between different military commands, according to the source.An unidentified number of scouting planes, combat aircraft and helicopters will join the exercise, according to the source.

BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China official Monday said China is ready to enhance cooperation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea, which was led by Kim Chang Ryong, the DPRK's Minister of Land and Environment Protection, in Beijing.Hailing the constant growth of China-DPRK relations, Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the successful visit by the DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il in May.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kim Jong Il reached important consensus on promoting bilateral pragmatic cooperation during that visit.China would work with the DPRK to fulfill the consensus and expand bilateral cooperation to push forward China-DPRK relations, Li said.Kim Chang Ryong said the DPRK held the unswerving policy of cementing and promoting friendship with China. The DPRK would work with China to enhance ties in accordance with the willingness of top leaders from both sides.The DPRK delegation is in China on a visit from June 12 to 22 at the invitation of the CPC. ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 19 (Xinhua)-- More than 1,700 mudslide evacuees presently residing at schools in Zhouqu county of northwest China's Gansu Province are to be relocated as students will start the new semester soon, local authorities said Thursday.More than 400 households, altogether over 1,700 people, will be moved to Shachuan Village, in western of the mudslides-leveled county, said Yang Jianguo, head of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture which administers Zhouqu.The people are now living in dormitories and classrooms of three local schools, namely No.1 High School, No.1 Junior High and No. 3 Junior High. With students coming back from their summer vacation, the schools could no longer be used as settlement areas.More than one thousand tents will be erected at the new settlement zone covering an area of 67 mu (4.5 hectares), with three tents for each family, said Yang."They probably will have to spend the winter there so winter tents will be used," said Yang.The devastating mudslides which hit on Aug. 8 have claimed 1,364 lives with 401 people still missing as of 4 p.m. Thursday.Work crews will level the ground, ensure water and electricity supply and build lavatories from Aug. 21 to 23. They will start setting up tents on Aug. 24, said Yang.The new semester for junior school students and pupils will begin on Aug. 25 and senior high students will be transferred to other cities in the province, and start the new semester in early September.

CHENGDU, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The massive mudslide that hit Wenchuan County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, Saturday had killed 15 people and injured nine others by Monday, local authorities said Tuesday.Wenchuan County was the epicenter of the 8.0-magnitude earthquake that jolted Sichuan and other neighboring provinces in west China in May 2008. The quake left some 87,000 people dead or missing.The county, which falls under the jurisdiction of Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba, was ravaged by rain-triggered floods and mudslides Saturday.At least 31 people were reported missing following the mudslide, but whether the 15 deaths were included was not known, according to a statement issued by the county government of Wenchuan.More than 50,000 residents and tourists were forced to evacuate in Aba as the local meteorological station issued warnings beginning Friday about expected heavy rains and possible geological disasters.Also, the county government of Wenchuan has arranged temporary shelters for residents left homeless by the floods.In Yingxiu Township of Wenchuan, rows of newly completed homes were submerged by the overflowed Minjiang River which runs through the town. The new homes had been built to accommodate those residents relocated outside Yingxiu after the deadly earthquake.If the flooding had not occurred, Lian Qunhua, who opened a grocery in the town, would have received the key for her new home in two weeks."This used to be my home," Lian told a Xinhua reporter, pointing to some debris in front of her. "That is my new home," she said, indicating a row of fresh new buildings soaked in the flood waters on the opposite bank of the Minjiang River."I feel hurt, indeed," she lamented.
