Bob Corker, has suggested that the planned Wednesday briefing from Mattis and Pompeo alone would not be sufficient to answer the growing number of questions about Khashoggi's death.And claims that the White House was actively working to prevent her from testifying only fueled concerns about Trump's willingness to appropriately respond to the murder.The CIA declined to comment on what led to the decision that Haspel will not brief lawmakers Wednesday.A Senate aide told CNN that the White House is responsible for determining who briefs the Senate on behalf of the administration, and they seem determined to ignore requests from Corker to include an appropriate intelligence briefer, which could include Haspel or Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.Another congressional aide said Tuesday that the White House is attempting to "hide" Haspel in an attempt to prevent her from sharing details that may not align with its public response to Khashoggi's murder."If they were confident in their story they would send her to the US Senate and have her brief US senators. Intelligence officials have said the CIA presented the President with a confidence-based assessment given the facts of the situation.Though sources tell CNN that the CIA has assessed with high confidence that the prince directed Khashoggi's murder, which was conducted by members of bin Salman's inner circle, the fact that they don't make a final conclusion gives the White House an out.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell raised concerns about the "abhorrent" actions by Saudi Arabia during a press briefing when asked if he believes the crown prince and others should be punished for Khashoggi's killing.McConnell noted that senators are currently discussing how to respond but would not answer CNN's question if Haspel should attend Wednesday's briefing.Congressional lawmakers have continued to push for answers from the administration despite the White House's public response.Corker warned Monday that there will be "a lot happening" in Congress on Saudi Arabia, including a vote as soon as this week calling for an end to US involvement in Yemen, as he renewed demands for Haspel to brief senators on Khashoggi's murder.As lawmakers continue to discuss potential options for a response, Trump has signaled he will not take strong action against Saudi Arabia or bin Salman.Two sources told CNN on Monday that the US has "slammed the brakes on" a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a limited ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid in Yemen over concerns about angering Saudi Arabia.One source familiar with the negotiations over the resolution tells CNN the US "has slammed the brakes on," saying that "we can't support a resolution at the moment."The source also said the move is at odds with what US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has been signaling to her counterparts at the UN, since she was supportive of the planned resolution weeks ago.The White House declined to comment as did the US Mission to the United Nations. (KGTV) - A woman was found unconscious and bloody outside a Chula Vista laundromat Friday night.Paramedics responded to reports of an unconscious woman at the Coin-Op laundromat near Broadway and F Street just after 9 p.m.The woman had apparently been beaten and left on the sidewalk on the side of the strip mall.Ivonne Campos, who works at a nearby Mexican restaurant said her bosses saw the woman as they were leaving for the night.Campos came over to help the woman, who she believes is homeless. The global pandemic won’t stop them from tracking Santa Claus’ progress as he delivers gifts around the globe on Christmas Eve.The North American Aerospace Defense Command has announced that NORAD will track Santa on Dec. 24, just as it has done for 65 years. But there will be some changes: Not every child will be able to get through to a volunteer at NORAD’s call center to check on Santa’s whereabouts, as they have in years before.Normally, 150-160 volunteers crowd into a conference room at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, taking two-hour shifts to answer the phones as eager children call to see if Santa and his sleigh have reached their rooftops. All together, 1,500 people over 20 hours have participated in the call center in the past, fielding more than 130,000 phone calls, beginning at 6 a.m. Eastern time on Christmas Eve.This year, due to safety restrictions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of volunteers has been drastically cut to what NORAD expects will be fewer than 10 people per shift.“We understand this is a time-honored tradition, and we know undoubtedly there is going to be some disappointment,” said NORAD spokesman Preston Schlachter. “But we’re trying to keep it safe for everyone involved.”So, some callers may be able to once again get through to a member of the military or other volunteer when they dial the NORAD Tracks Santa toll-free number, 1-877-Hi-NORAD. But others will get a recorded update on Santa’s current location.Schlachter said NORAD will largely be limiting volunteers to people who already work there and their immediate families. But that could be expanded a bit as the time gets closer. (KGTV) - A ruptured gas line forced one building to evacuate in Chula Vista Friday.Chula Vista fire crews discovered a one-inch gas line sheared with gas blowing in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue around 3 p.m. A nearby building was evacuated, according to CVFD.Nearby Fredericka Manor Retirement Community also advised its residents and visitors to shelter in place.Firefighters were not able to immediately determine the cause of the break. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The perfect storm. A lack of oversight, massive spending and an even larger deficit. Those are all the ways the Sweetwater Union High School District is being put on blast by a new analysis by the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team. In a review of the district’s budget woes, the team's CEO Michael Fine presented Sweetwater’s school board with details on how the district ended up in its dire financial situation.Fine said the district has mismanaged its money for many years, even suggesting that specific accounting errors were “intentional” and part of a “cover up.”The report also found that the district didn’t comply with public disclosure requirements. So what does the future look like? According to the analysis, the district is projected to keep spending at a deficit at least through 2021. RELATED: Sweetwater Union High School District faces potential fraud investigationAccording to the report, a financial projection shows an expected .4 million deficit in the 2019-2020 school year and a .6 million deficit in 2020-2021. The board has yet to approve a plan to fix deficit spending. What’s more, the report found that the county doesn’t have access to the district’s financial system, blocking access to oversight.The report also found that the district doesn't have controls in place that limit access to its financial system. In fact, Fine found that a single employee has "complete access to cash between funds and is given complete access to the county treasury district accounts." It's unclear whether or not that employee has the ability to move money outside the treasury accounts. After action is taken against the employee, such as the employee being terminated, the district doesn't verify that that employee's access to financial systems is suspended. TIMELINE: Sweetwater Union High School District's budget woesFinally, the report found that the district doesn't account for all positions and costs. Fine suggested the Sweetwater District can do the following to begin the process of climbing out of debt:1. Cooperate with the County Office of Education: Fine said the county office are “partners” and recommended the district work closely -- and be transparent -- with the assigned fiscal advisor.2. Invest in business office staff: Fine believes the district’s new chief financial officer, Dr. Jenny Salkeld, can be the best resource as they work through the problems.3. Develop and implement a recovery plan: Fine said, “You cannot kick this can down the road,” when it comes to putting together an adequate plan.4. Audit cash borrowing and cash position: Fine suggested Sweetwater thoroughly evaluate its cash management, including the sources from which money is borrowed. 2758
