SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mortgage brokers spent the past week calling and emailing clients around San Diego, telling people it's time to buy."Whenever I see a rate dip like that, my first reaction is to call everyone as fast as I can," says Broker Scott Davenport. "I try to get a hold of as many people that have been on that fence to jump on it as quickly as they can."The frenzy started when mortgage rates dropped .22% on March 27, to 4.06% on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage.It was the biggest single-week rate drop in more than a decade.RELATED: San Diego among top hot housing markets for 2019, Zillow reports"That could mean a savings of hundreds of dollars per month," says Davenport. "Or even hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a 30 year mortgage."Analysts say the drop came after the Federal Reserve said it was worried about the economy slowing down. It caused concern among investors, which led to good news for buyers."It's not gonna last," says Davenport. "You never know where the market's going to go. I expect rates to stay low through the summer, but at the same time, I don't expect them to stay low for long."Rates hit historic lows in 2012, around 3%, after the recession and housing bubble burst. Davenport says he doesn't see conditions that would create rates that low any time soon. That's why he's telling people to take advantage of the current rate near 4% now.He says anyone thinking of buying, or of refinancing a mortgage should get in touch with their broker now."Have the numbers run. It's something we do all the time," he says. "We can see if there's a benefit for a refinance with it, with the rate drop for you right now. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and police were searching for a suspect after a shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.San Diego Police said one victim was transported to a nearby hospital after the shooting at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of University Avenue.Police later confirmed the victim died of their injuries.Police were still searching for a gunman following the shooting. SDPD's homicide unit has taken over the investigation.Delays for drivers are expected in the area on University Ave., police added.No further information was immediately available. 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People throughout San Diego County are searching for answers after hearing a mysterious boom Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of San Diego Residents in La Jolla and Del Mar took to Twitter after hearing the noise before 12:45 p.m. "Felt it in La Jolla / Windansea - even my dogs started barking," one Twitter user said, referring to the noise. Several people wondered whether or not an earthquake could be to blame, but according to the United States Geological Survey, the nearest earthquake was a 2.9 magnitude near Corona reported at 4:16 a.m. Wednesday. USGS' website states that, "reports of a bang are a clue that it's a sonic boom, but not an ironclad indicator since shallow earthquakes often sound like booms or bangs."10News has reached out to military officials to see whether or not military exercises may have caused the boom.The Marine Corps, however, did send a statement that reads, in part: "While we are aware of media reports of a possible sonic boom, no 3rd MAW units have reported one in San Diego air space. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Murder during rape is a special circumstance, meaning no bail for the man accused of killing an elderly woman in her Normal Heights home in 1987.Kevin Ford, 62, didn’t have much to say in court Tuesday, charged with the murder and rape of 79-year-old Grace Hayden. Some advances in technology and persistent police work helping make today happen after three decades.The video remains just as chilling today as it was 31 years ago. Hayden's body was wheeled out of her home. Her neighbor told 10News reporter Steve Fiorina back then, that she was a friendly neighbor."She was loveable, friendly, never bothered, as far as I know, anyone," the neighbor said."Never went out because she was something like handicapped. She was a nice lady," another neighbor said.The case went cold until a single fingerprint found on Hayden’s stove. And some hard work led investigators to an arrest in North Carolina.San Diego DA investigator Tony Johnson was reviewing the unsolved case when he found that fingerprint. He submitted it to a national database and got a hit from a 20-15 warrant out of North Carolina.Three years ago he talked with KPBS saying, “a case goes cold primarily when the initial team that’s investigating the case has run out of leads.”Ford was extradited to San Diego. Tuesday, he was arraigned before a judge. A public defender said ford denies all charges.Ford is due back in court on Aug. 7. 1460

Wasn't it great?Last September, as a dismal 66-win season was winding to a close, I had a chance to interview Fowler on my Mighty 1090 morning radio show, "Ben and Woods." I asked him about the possibility of pursing Manny Machado on the free agent market."Machado, I think, is somebody that every team would like," Fowler said before adding the dreaded "but" to the sentence. "But if we're looking at someone who's looking at 10 years and 0 million, I don't think that's something we're looking to do."Then, 145 days later, Fowler made himself into a liar, authorizing exactly what he said he wouldn't do -- a 10-year, 0 million contract for Machado.
