Presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke out on Wednesday on the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Blake was shot by police in Wisconsin on Sunday, causing unrest in Kenosha.Two officers from the incident have been placed on administrative leave. But protesters are calling for the officers to be fired and criminally charged for the shooting.Biden confirmed that he has talked to the Blake Family about the shooting.“What I saw on that video makes me sick,” Biden said. “Once again, a black man, Jacob Blake, been shot by the police in the broad daylight, the whole world watching”Biden said he told the Blake Family that “justice must and will be done.”While Biden applauded the protests, he decried the violence surrounding the protests. The violence culminated on Tuesday in the fatal shooting of two people. RANCHO BERNARDO (KGTV)- A coyote with piping trapped around her neck is still suffering, much to the chagrin of neighbors and animal rescue organizations.Katie Ryan first noticed the mother coyote was in trouble April 15th. She has an outdoor camera that captures her side yard in the overnight hours and, prior to this, she's seen lots of animals travel through."We moved in a little over 3 1/2 years ago, and we had no idea that we were moving onto a pathway for all types of wildlife. We've had a raccoon on a nightly basis recently, one of my neighbors had deer, we've seen roadrunners," she said.Katie's worked tirelessly, monitoring the coyote from her window and calling organizations to get help. "[I'm] making sure she's safe and that no one's out trying to injure her more than she already is," she said.The Fund for Wildlife Animal Center, based in Ramona, brought out a large trap, filled it with bait, but the raccoons got to it before they could trap the coyote.Katie had them remove the trap last weekend after a week of no luck. Her hope is another rescue group will be able to trap the coyote Monday night."I want it humane, I don't want, I did talk with some people who... I was not happy with their trapping ideas because she's already in such bad condition," she said.Katie has grown so invested in the animal, she and her husband came up with a name for her, "because of the tubing around her neck, my husband and I were just joking around about it and we just said it reminds us, she looks like a turtle. So we called her Myrtle the Turtle."As time goes on, the situation becomes more desperate. Katie's pictures show how thin Myrtle's become over the past month and she's worried about Myrtle's pups."She's very cut up and could be septic at this point and I noticed she's starting to have problems with her hind legs and her hips," Katie said. "Just watching her try to move from A to B, is painful, it really actually gives me physical and mental pain to see her in that kind of distress."PETA has gotten involved, saying they want to help. Restaurant servers dodged a bullet this week with a provision tucked into the .3 trillion federal spending bill.Late last year, the Department of Labor proposed a rule?that would have authorized restaurants to share tips between servers and cooks. That would allow employers to keep some tip money for themselves, as long as each worker made at least the full federal minimum wage of .25 an hour.Workers' rights groups argued the rule change would lower the pay of those who work at restaurants, hotels and bars. Opponents of the rule held splashy public protests. The Labor Department received more than 218,000 mostly negative comments on the proposal.It appeared to have worked. The spending bill, which President Donald Trump signed into law on Friday, includes a section that makes it clear that employers may not pocket any portion of tips that diners leave for workers."We beat them," said Saru Jayaraman, president of the nonprofit Restaurant Opportunities Center. "I think they realized how outrageous what they were proposing sounded to the public, and basically they backed down."Representatives for the restaurant industry, however, are also pleased.The National Restaurant Association said it never asked for employers to be allowed to keep tips in the first place. Angelo Amador, senior VP at the trade group, argued that most employers wouldn't skim tips even if they were allowed to."A decision by a restaurant to retain some or all of the customer tips rather than distributing them to the hourly staff would be unpopular with employees and guests alike, and it could severely damage the public's perception of the restaurant," Amador wrote in his comment on the proposed rule.The left-leaning Economic Policy Institute disagreed, saying that many employers take a portion of tips even in places where it's forbidden, and would do so even more often if it were legal. In a recent report, it estimated that servers would lose some .8 billion in tips annually to their employers.The language in the spending bill also effectively does another big thing: It allows employers to pool tips and distribute them among staff, as long as the employer also pays the full minimum wage. Many owners have long sought to boost the pay of kitchen workers and bussers by forcing servers to share their tips."We want to ensure that servers, bussers, dishwashers, cooks, and others who work as a team to provide great customer service in the industry have access to share in tips left by customers, as this legislation clearly allows," said Amador.That's fine with labor advocates at the National Employment Law Project, who say that pooling tips is a good way to create wage equity, as long workers are paid the full minimum wage and tips aren't shared with managers or any other supervisors. Rattled by a string of explosions, which has put the city on edge for the last two weeks, a possible new explosion was reported Tuesday evening near a Goodwill store, the Austin Police Department said on its Twitter account. But after an hour of investigating, the police department said the explosion stemmed from an an incendiary device. The department said the incident was likely not connected to a previous string of explosions. One male said to be in his 30s was transported to the hospital. Their condition is serious, but the injuries are not expected to be life threatening. Tuesday incident comes just hours after a package detonated at a FedEx package handling facility in Texas.The package's intended destination is unknown.  770

Protesting an animal rights protest, a chef and co-owner at Antler Kitchen & Bar in Toronto began butchering a raw deer leg with a sharp knife in the restaurant's window.It all started with a friendly chalkboard feud with another local restaurant down the street. According to The Globe and Mail, Antler used its sidewalk sign to write what it thought was a harmless food joke."Venison is the new kale."“There was no offense meant,” Micahel Hunter, the deer-carving chef and co-owner of Antler Kitchen & Bar, told The Globe and Mail. “I’m not trying to promote a meat diet. I have a lot of respect for the vegan diet because I know how hard it is.”But, Marni Ugar, who already had experience organizing animal rights protests, took offense. She saw the sign and organized a rally, the Canadian publication wrote.A group of animal rights activists got together several times in front of the restaurant, chanting "you're a murderer" and "you've got blood on your hands," according to The Globe and Mail. After three months of listening to chants of murder echo through his restaurant came Hunter's breaking point - a counterprotest in full view of the animal rights activists."I figured I'll show them," Hunter told The Globe and Mail. "I'm going to have my own protest."Then protesters held up signs in front of the window as he carved. One had big, pink letters - MURDER. Another said, "Animals are not ours to use."On its website, the locavore restaurant, which prides itself on using local and regional ingredients, says its menu "is rural to its roots" and "aims to celebrate the wild culinary delights of Canada." Menu items, which the protesters clearly do not approve of, include rack of deer and a Game Burger made with wild boar, bison and deer. Even the pappardelle has braised rabbit. On occasion, the restaurant "cook[s] game meats over an open fire pit, in true rustic style."It's clear the restaurant opposes factory farming and prides itself on using all parts of the animal.But Ugar said an animal is an animal. On a street full of butcher shops and other restaurants serving meat, she picked Antler as her protesting focal point to debunk what she calls a myth that raising animals in pastures free from hormones and antibiotics is more ethical than factory farming, she told The Daily Globe and Mail. She said it's not ethical-free meat.After Hunter's counterprotest, he told The Globe and Mail he didn't feel good about it.Hunter and Ugar have begun a conversation over the issue. The Canadian publication said Ugar offered to reduce the frequency of the protests to once a month if Hunter would agree to put a sign in the window: "Attention, animals' lives are their right. Killing them is violent and unjust, no matter how it's done."Hunter responded with plans to introduce a vegan menu, and invited Ugar's group to join him on a foraging trip, The Globe and Mail said.
