SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Santee mother Carolan McCollough is hoping to bring babysitting into the 21st century for East County families.She's started a babysitting co-op so families can sit for each other for free. Rather than exchanging money, there's a point system. "I was just trying to find cheaper ways to babysit, and my mom told me about a co-op that people did way back when she was a mom," said McCollough.McCollough uses the platform Komae to organize the exchange. Two Akron, Ohio moms developed the app after they started an old fashioned co-op with ten friends. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University's men's basketball team has returned to the top ten in the national polls for the first time in five years, reaching number seven in the AP and Coach's Polls released Monday. The Aztecs are 15-0 to start the season, making them one of just two undefeated teams remaining in Division One. The other team is Auburn. Head Coach Brian Dutcher says the team is handling the success well, refusing to be distracted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a composite sketch Wednesday in the search for a man who carjacked a woman at Fashion Valley Mall. The 57-year-old victim was walking to her car in the west parking lot near JCPenney Monday at 1:45 p.m. when the man approached her from behind, police said. The man put a knife to the woman’s neck and demanded her car keys and wallet. Officers said she turned over the items, at which point the man got into her 2017 white Nissan Sentra and drove away. The Sentra was later recovered, according to police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Sara Jacobs, winner of the race to replace the retiring Susan Davis in California's 53rd district, is getting ready to begin the transition to Congress."Kind of feels like college. I’ll be going to freshman orientation, picking my office room, staffing my office. Talking with congresswoman Davis, to others about a transition. And then getting ready so that as soon as I get sworn in, I can hit the ground running," Jacobs told ABC 10News.Jacobs says the new Congress' first priority will be helping the nation bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic. She says she'll insist any new round of stimulus spending will include funding to help small businesses and families, including child care.In her victory speech, Jacobs pointed out that at 31, she'll be one of the youngest members of Congress, and just the third woman to represent the San Diego region. Aeiramique Glass Blake, an activist and friend of Jacobs, says her election is inspiring to young San Diegans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's most popular hiking spots may become a little easier to get to — before the hike up, that is.County planners will consider whether to purchase about 84 acres of land from the Taylor Family Trust to help construct a parking lot on State route 67 to help hikers access the trail head.Currently, hikers and runners park along SR-67 and on surrounding neighborhood streets and run or hike along the highway and private or state-owned lands to access the county's utility road that leads up to the popular North County landmark."The most popular route to Potato Chip Rock is currently accessed by hikers parking on the shoulders of SR 67 and on nearby neighborhood streets, which poses safety concerns. Hikers park their vehicles on the shoulders of SR 67 and traverse private or State-owned land to access the City of San Diego’s utility road to Potato Chip Rock, which hikers use as a trail," the County Board of Supervisors plan says.RELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019Otherwise, hikers would have to park at Lake Poway Park to hike up Mount Woodson 7.5 miles to reach the Potato Chip Rock. The 84-acre plot could provide access to the county land and allow for off-road parking, the board says.The plot of land would be large enough for parking to serve those accessing the eastern route of Mount Woodson as well as the county road up to the rock.
