Labor Day is coming up, but that doesn't mean all Americans are taking the day off.A survey from the U.S. Travel Association says not enough Americans are using their vacation days. In fact, the study found U.S. workers wasted a record-setting 658 million vacation days. There's proof that those vacation days can do the mind and body some good.A group of doctors found that people who did take days off to do things they enjoyed had better blood pressure levels, lower stress levels and had an improved body mass index. They were also less likely to be depressed or feel negative. All these effects were seen in people who took at least one week of vacation per year.Experts also say it's not about quantity, but about quality. So, if you can't take an entire week off from work, no worries! Just make the time off worth it by doing things you actually enjoy and spending it with people you like.Another benefit-- the same study says people who take more time off are more likely to get a promotion or a raise. The amount of time people take off differs from state to state. Workers in Idaho are leaving their vacation time on the table. According to a new report from Wallet Hub, Alaska is the hardest working state, while people in Michigan take it the easiest. 1274

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Players and coaches from the New Orleans Pelicans and Utah Jazz knelt alongside one another before the first game of the NBA restart. It was an unprecedented image for the league in unprecedented times. The coaches — New Orleans’ Alvin Gentry and Utah’s Quin Snyder — were next to one another Thursday, their arms locked together. Some players raised a fist as the final notes of “The Star-Spangled Banner” were played, the first of what is expected to be many silent statements calling for racial justice and equality following the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in recent months. The league has a long-standing rule that requires players to stand during the national anthem. But commissioner Adam Silver backed the players' decision. “I respect our teams’ unified act of peaceful protest for social justice and under these unique circumstances will not enforce our long-standing rule requiring standing during the playing of our national anthem," Silver said in a statement. 1025

Liliana Gallegos says she could not breathe and had chest pains when she was infected with the novel coronavirus.“Back then, even myself, I wasn’t masking up,” Liliana Gallegos said. “I was like, ‘it’s not that serious. It was like a cold or flu.’”It was far from a cold or flu. Gallegos was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April, and she wasn’t the only one in her household. Her 63-year-old father and her children also got infected. Later, her fiancé got sick.“He passed it on, and all his co-workers caught COVID. It just spread, and we were not cautious about that at that time,” said Gallegos.Gallegos recovered 17 days later. The experience gave her a new perspective.“I think it’s so important to take the precautions they are telling us. Six feet apart, sanitize, wear your mask,” she said.More than 1,000 hospitals in the U.S. are teaming up to encourage everyone to stay safe. The Every Mask Up (#EveryMaskUp) campaign provides vital health resources and has developed messages on a variety of digital platforms to get the word out.Medical experts say wearing a mask is the best chance of slowing the COVID-19 pandemic.Right now, more than 13 million Americans are infected, and more than 250,000 have died. 1220

LeBron James already runs the NBA from a player's perspective, but now people want him to run the country's education system as well. An online petition is asking for signatures to get James considered to take over the Secretary of Education position from Betsy DeVos.The petition says they want James to step in as he has shown his desire to help at-risk children after opening his "I Promise" school in Akron, Ohio late last month which will give education to those children who would not otherwise be able to receive it. It also gives all those who graduate from the school free tuition to Akron University. James recently spoke to CNN's Don Lemon to discuss the new school as well as President Trump to elected DeVos to her position. Trump then went on to tweet about the interview, calling into question James' intelligence. The tweet led to a firestorm of responses calling into question Trump's intelligence as well as the Secretary of Education's. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers responded to the president's tweet by saying he, and many other athletes across different sports, support James and what he has done in the community, not just the NBA. The petition is looking for 12,000 signatures and currently has over 11,750.  1289
