SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Demonstrators gathered Friday outside San Diego Police Department's headquarters and marched through the streets downtown in protest of the Wisconsin shooting of Jacob Blake.Sky10 was live overhead as protesters marched through the streets, some carrying flags, to demonstrate. The gathering occurred on the same day as the March on Washington in the nation's capital, where thousands rallied on the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.SDPD shut down Broadway and E Street between 14th and 15th streets, on the north and south sides of downtown SDPD headquarters in preparation for the protest. A flyer for the demonstration advertised the event as being in solidarity with protesters in Kenosha, Wisc., where Blake, a 29-year-old unarmed Black man, was shot seven times in the back by a police officer on Aug. 23.Officers have not said what led up to the shooting, but video shot by a neighbor shows Blake walking to an SUV and attempting to enter it moments before an officer grabs him by the shirt and shoots him.Blake is reportedly paralyzed from his wounds and recovering in a hospital.Sky10 video showed one individual being detained by police during the gathering. Police say they stopped a vehicle following the crowd after it ran at least one red light. During the stop, SDPD said the crowd also stopped and a suspect from the crowd "sprayed a chemical irritant spray at a line of officers."Four people were arrested, according to police: one for battery on an officer and resisting arrest with violence, and the remaining three for resisting/obstructing officers. SDPD later added that two people were arrested for shining a laser at officers and a police helicopter. Three more people were arrested later in the night, according to police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Families across the San Diego region are continuing to battle record high home prices and rents.But there are now several plans in the works to boost supply - and hopefully bring prices down."There's no magic bullet, no magic wand," said Rick Gentry, who heads the San Diego Housing Commission. "I don't see there's one solution. There are a host of solutions that we can bring to bear that over time will reduce the problem."Jimmy Ayala, who heads Pardee Homes of San Diego, says the biggest change that could lower prices is reducing the time it takes to get permits. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Despite criticism, a spokesperson for the California Republican Party told ABC 10News on Tuesday that the party will continue placing unofficial ballot drop boxes around communities.They've popped up in Orange, Los Angeles, and Fresno counties, but so far none have been reported in San Diego. Several have been labeled "official", as confirmed by CA GOP spokesperson Hector Barajas. “We could've had better wording on the ballot boxes and so we changed some of the wording around already on the ballot boxes but the important thing to remember is that these ballot boxes are inside our campaign headquarters or inside of businesses or other organizations. It's not as though they're outside in front of a mailbox or outside a library or a secondhand store or another place of business,” he told ABC 10News.On Monday, California's Secretary of State and the State Attorney General sent a cease and desist to the GOP, calling the boxes illegal. Some argue that the boxes are deceptive and could lead to tampering. “These boxes are not the same as county election drop boxes that are required to meet state security standards,” said California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.Barajas told ABC 10News, “What is happening right now is the Secretary of State -- with this cease and desist -- is basically looking to engage in voter suppression [by] eliminating more options for individuals to be able to drop off their ballot.”Barajas said that "ballot harvesting" is a practice that allows a third party to collect voters' completed ballots and was legalized four years ago in a bill authored by San Diego Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.A tweet Tuesday from one of Gonzalez’s accounts reads, "Apparently, Republicans in our legislature think that when I wrote that a voter could designate a 'person' to turn in their ballot, they thought I meant a fraudulently labeled box. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans packed the SDCCU Stadium for the Navy Notre Dame game, the focus for San Diegans revolving not on the friendly rivalry but the fight over what will happen to the landmark."This game is a big game and could be the last game here," Darren Hopkins, 13, said sitting next to his dad in the first row.Saturday night was the ninety-second game between Navy and Notre Dame and the crowd was very supportive of both sides."My dad's in the Navy but we're also big Notre Dame fans, so we're kinda split between," Darren said.The stadium hosted it's first football game in 1967, and fans tell 10News they love watching football here."It's good to see good football back in San Diego, I already miss the Chargers games and all the activities but it's really good to see there's some sports fans still here and they can fill the stadium it's really nice," Dan Hopkins said."A lot of energy here a lot of history here really wish the chargers were still in town but they're not, voting on Soccer City in November," San Diego local Kyle Uminger said.Both measures on the ballot call for a new stadium, either for San Diego State, or a soccer expansion team.Fans wish there was another option."I think that there's still so much spirit left in San Diego for a sports team, especially football, the entire stadium is filled up and it's just super loud and everyone is excited," Darren said.The vote will happen November 6th, 2018. 1480
