SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld has confirmed that the company completed layoffs Friday, a spokesperson confirmed to 10News. It’s unclear exactly how many people were laid off in San Diego or companywide, but the move comes as SeaWorld continues to see an increase in attendance at its parks. The move also comes as SeaWorld San Diego gets ready to open a new attraction called Tidal Twister this May. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's City Council head Friday called for a temporary stop on dockless scooters in San Diego until a new plan is developed.President Pro Tem Barbara Bry has called for a moratorium on electric scooters, saying, "enough is enough – scooter companies have had their opportunity." "In May, the City Council approved a permitting and regulatory program that went into effect on July 1. We believed these rules could help reestablish order on our sidewalks," Bry said in a statement. "Instead, we are left with companies willfully ignoring staging restrictions and geofencing requirements."The City Council voted unanimously, in fact, for those regulations, which include:Speed limit drop from 15 mph to 8 mph on the Boardwalk or 3 mph in other high-traffic areas;Bans users from parking scooters near school, hospitals, and Petco Park;Creation of designated scooter corrals so the vehicles do not congest sidewalks; andRequire scooter companies to pay a permit fee of a little more than ,000 every six months, as well as a 0 per device fee.San Diego law enforcement has since been tasked with enforcing the new policy.Even still, Bry says the situation has worsen for residents."Emergency rooms and urgent care centers are filling up with severe injuries. City resources are being wasted to collect and store inappropriately parked devices, and we don’t even know if the fines cover our costs," Bry said, adding a "scooter graveyard" now poses an environmental hazard.Just this last week, scooter companies were left scrambling to recover more than 2,500 dockless scooters and bicycles seized during Comic-Con weekend. Those scooters and bikes were stored at the city’s operation yard in Balboa Park. Companies must pay per impounded device — plus a storage fee — to recover them before the city moves them to its impound yard in Miramar.San Diego has installed scooter corrals to keep the devices organized in high traffic areas, but that hasn't addressed all the issues. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says Lime Bike, Bird, Skip, and Lyft have all violated its terms of operation in regards to geofencing and operating restrictions.Bry said a temporary ban is needed ban until a "fiscally responsible, well-thought out" plan is developed. 2282

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some long-time roller derby kids are upset after Skateworld management announced their Youth Roller Derby program was cut. Many of these kids were instrumental in the "Save Skateworld" campaign in April. When Skateworld was on the verge of being turned into a big box store, they were there. "We got out of school the day of the City Council meeting," mother, Meadow Beidler said. Armed with their skates and signs, dozens of roller derby kids convinced San Diego City Council to vote to save Skateworld on April 8, 2019. "We really thank the kids for coming out and making their signs," Skateworld general manager, Brett Stang said. His father Gary Stang started the rink in 1975. It has been a Linda Vista institution ever since. Earlier this year, when a developer shared plans to turn Skateworld into a big box store, the derby kids rallied and protested for days.Little did the kids know, that the home they just helped save, would essentially kick them out. Beidler is a proud "Derby Mom" of three fierce girls: "Cheshire Splat," "Hot Sauce," and "Zoom Zoom Kaboom." But now, she doesn't know if she will keep that title. "We don't know if we are going to be able to continue with derby," Beidler said. Days after the city council vote to save their rink, Beidler says her girls were suddenly told that their Youth Derby program would be cut. Management explained it was due to administrative reasons. "The way it went down it was just heartbreaking," Beidler said. The kids were told to join another club instead."We haven't been able to give that derby team the attention it kind of deserves," Brett Stang said. "They've been bumped for private events and other slots, so there is another team out there, 'Derby United,' who offered to take our program under their wing."But Beidler says the problem is that Derby United's new facility in La Mesa has not started construction. She also says Skateworld's prices cannot be beaten. "If we were to continue that and do derby at this new location that hasn't been built yet, then it would cost my family an additional 0 a month," Beidler said. Her girls are now so distraught, they cannot even speak. After all they did for Skateworld, they feel unappreciated. "Having our kids getting excited and politically motivated and going on camera and speaking from the heart how it is family," Beidler said. "They feel very betrayed."Skateworld's management told 10News, although they are closed on Mondays, the kids could have Monday practices if parents and coaches work on an agreement. But hosting home games on the weekends would be tough, considering their free skate schedule. 2663

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego’s unemployment rate is near historic lows, but plenty of people are still out of work. 10News is exploring ways to help you improve your competitive edge in the job market. “I freelance, and I have a part-time job that has been helping me get through,” said Katie Orchard, who has been looking for full-time work for the past four months. Orchard is in search of stability, but in a competitive job market, that search becomes more difficult. RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Hiring growth reported in all San Diego fields“It’s hard, it’s hard for everybody,” said OrchardCurrently, the unemployment rate in San Diego as of April 2019 is at 3 percent. However, the employment rate in San Diego is also down. With a job market continually changing, how do you improve your edge and stand out?According to Allie Barara and Dana Ellison, both recruiters at Creative Circle in San Diego, the key to standing out, is your resume. RELATED: LIST: Jobs available for retirees“Because there are so many people looking for positions they get lost in the shuffle, and they are not hearing back. It’s kinda like that black hole of the unknown once you submit your resume,” said Allie Barara. Barara says, job candidates need to be specific with programs and software. “I think what a lot of people miss on their resume, is that they don’t spell out the specific softwares they are proficient in. I think showing that at the top of their resume is really going to highlight and give you those extra buzzwords,” said Barara. Another way to make your resume stand out is including or obtaining certificates in your specific field of interest. RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Single mom uses free training to switch careers“The world is becoming so digital in general, so any digital certifications you can get, Google AdWords, Facebook Ads Manager, Facebook Analytics, anything like that. But also the specific softwares and CMS’ will really stick out to employers. They want you to have the experience, but having that certification to back it up, will also go a long way as well,” Barara said. According to Dana Ellison, a senior recruiter, a common mistake job seekers make is not applying for the right job.“I say titles are a little nebulous. If you see a job and say hey this describes all the skill sets I do, but it’s not how I’m marketing myself, that would be a great way to start,” said Ellison. Ellison also suggests job seekers ditch the fluff words to make room for things that matter. “If someone says they are a good communicator, a team player, a fast learner, those are things literally everyone says, so those things can be left off,” said Ellison. Both Ellison and Barara also suggest being patient and confident in your work. See the Creative Circle resume guide here. 2813
