LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two women on vacation in San Diego had their trip ruined when thieves stole all of their luggage.Vivia Bradshaw and Yvonne Simpson live in Florida and New York. For the last 15 years, they've made regular trips to San Diego."We’re always coming back, it is so beautiful, we love the weather especially," says Simpson. "Everything's so beautiful. We've never had a terrible experience coming here before."But their trip this past week turn a turn for the worse on Saturday, while they were visiting with a friend in La Mesa.Simpson and Bradshaw say they had put their luggage in their friend's car at the Woodland Terrace Apartments while they visited his home."When we were ready to leave, I came back to the car and saw something a little strange," says Simpson. "I asked him, was that open? And he saw right away that someone had entered the car. I said check the trunk. He did, all our suitcases were gone. Every last piece. Three of them!"Thieves took all of their clothes, money, gift cards, jewelry, shoes, purses and personal items."Everything's gone," says Simpson. "We know they're replaceable, but it's the sentiment."The two women have been able to buy new clothes and necessities. Now they're trying to make the most out of their week-long trip. They've filed a police report as well. La Mesa Police says they hope surveillance footage can help identify a suspect.Meanwhile, Bradshaw and Simpson have a warning for others."Just be careful," says Bradshaw. (CNS) - Authorities Monday reached out to the public for help in identifying a group of people suspected of breaking into and looting a La Mesa jewelry store following a protest against police brutality nearly four months ago.Surveillance cameras captured photos and video of at least six people suspected of breaking into Pierre's Jewelers, 8324 La Mesa Blvd., on the night of May 30, according to La Mesa police.Many of the individuals were wearing face coverings, but one woman had a tattoo on her left forearm and one man had tattoos on his right forearm, left forearm and right elbow.Anyone with information on the identity of the individuals in the photos is asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-7532 or lamesatips@cityoflamesa.us.Tipsters can remain anonymous and may also contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Over 50 crimes, including arson, vandalism, burglary and theft, were committed in La Mesa on May 30 and May 31, LMPD Lt. Greg Runge said.On May 30, a crowd gathered in front of the La Mesa Police Department at 2:30 p.m. to protest the May 27 arrest of a man at the Grossmont Transit Center, as well as the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.A portion of the group then marched onto Interstate 8 at Baltimore Drive, blocking traffic in both directions for hours.Around 6 p.m., protesters remaining in front of the La Mesa Police Department threw rocks and water bottles at an armored police car nearby, and police deployed tear gas, pepper balls and bean bag rounds in an attempt to disperse the crowd.Later in the evening, the La Mesa Springs Vons market -- closed at 8 p.m. -- was looted. Nearby businesses were looted as well, including the Grossmont Center Target as well as several businesses in the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center.After 11 p.m., two banks -- a Chase branch and a Union Bank branch -- were engulfed in flames on Spring Street and both burned to the ground.As of Monday, 25 people have either been arrested or "had charges sought against them for various crimes," Runge said. LA MESA (KGTV)- Friday evening could have been one of the last times the community sees the farmers market on La Mesa Boulevard. On Tuesday the La Mesa City Council will vote to determine the future of the farmers market. Scott Strickland is a vendor at the La Mesa Farmers Market and has been for four years. Strickland tells 10News, “it would be about probably 25 percent of my gross revenue.” Strickland does not want the farmers market to leave La Mesa Boulevard. The farmers market has been at this location for one year and Strickland says it’s been the best location for the vendors, “I would say maybe 10 times the money we were making over there.” Friday, 10News tried talking with business owners who oppose the farmers market being on La Mesa Boulevard. They all have brick and mortar locations that they say are suffering on Friday evenings. One restaurant owner showed us empty tables during their happy hour, another shared they had to cut down staffing on Friday nights because they were losing about three thousand dollars. Both sides are prepared to attend the meeting on Tuesday night and share their concerns and financial burdens with city councilmembers. 1184

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a runaway trailer crashing into a parked SUV in Lakeside before the truck hauling it took off.A few minutes past 7 a.m. on Saturday off Julian Avenue, Melissa Heiner heard the crash."We were in bed and heard a loud big thud. Instantly, a car alarm went off," said Heiner.Heiner and her husband ran out and found their SUV undamaged. It was not the same story next door.RELATED: Family to move out of Point Loma home after latest car crash"Just sickening," said Heiner.Surveillance video from her neighbor's home shows a white pickup truck driving down the street, hauling a long trailer. When it turns right, the trailer becomes unhitched and goes straight into driveway. It spears the front corner of a Toyota 4Runner, as the trailer's load flies off from the collision. The truck briefly pauses before driving off."It's sad to see someone would leave it and not care, just assuming someone else would take of their own problems," said Heiner. Just fortunate the damage wasn't worse and no one was hurt," said Heiner.The truck appears to be a newer model pickup, possibly a Dodge. LA MESA (CNS) - One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 8 in La Mesa and lanes of the freeway were blocked this morning until further notice.The crash occurred near state Route 125 at 9:55 p.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.A witness told officers one vehicle was being driven recklessly just before hitting the center divider wall.The crash blocked three westbound lanes of the freeway and a SigAlert was issued at 10:30 p.m., the CHP said.The age, gender, and name of the victim was not disclosed. 557
