He lost his son, Joaquin, in the Parkland school shooting.Sunday would've been Joaquin's 19th birthday.Oliver was already scheduled to be in El Paso, Texas, this weekend, putting a mural up at an immigrant advocacy center, when the mass shooting happened Saturday."Because it is his birthday, we always try to put together things that Joaquin would do," Oliver said. "And this is something that Joaquin will be very happy to do. Scream out his support for the immigrants."He is continuing with the mural, but hasn't said what it will be yet, only saying it will show support for the city of El Paso. People will have to just wait until it is revealed."This is the reason why we are here," the artist said. "Now, yesterday, 29 people were shot down, just like Joaquin.“It's very painful. And, um, I think ... somebody needs to do the dirty job."Murals like the one he is painting in El Paso have been Oliver's post-Parkland calling.“I'm not taking this as a new norm, " Oliver said. COLORADO — A 38-year-old father and basketball coach says his life was saved because of a nearby specialist who evaluated him digitally."I literally never once remember talking to a screen or seeing a screen in a room,” DJ Stelly said of a telemedicine robot in an emergency room.The ability for the ER to use a small machine to beam him in to a specialist 15 miles away saved him from having stroke. The specialist made the decision to airlift Stelly to a stroke center, where he spent four days in ICU before making a full recovery.“In my case, it was truly valuable,” he said. “I do think that this is going to be the future of super specialized expert care that’s instantaneously available.”Dr. Chris Fanale started the telemedicine program at Swedish Medical Center in Colorado, near Denver. Stroke specialists have access to more than 50 telemedicine robots in emergency rooms in five states.Fanale says the diagnosis isn’t the difficult part — it’s determining the treatment. And giving an incorrect dose of the stroke medication TPA can be deadly.“As you can imagine, patients as well as other physicians not used to this are a bit skittish at times, making that decision on their own,” Fanale said. “So that’s where we kind of help and augment providing that specialty care.”Fanale said doctors use their cell phones to beam into a patient’s hospital room.“You can see if pupils are being reactive or not,” he said. “Also if there’s any droopiness of the face.”Fanale can zoom in and out, even test verbal skills, saving critical time when every minute counts.“These are just cartoon pictures that will pop up on the camera in place of us and we will just ask them just explanations of naming objects,” he said as he showed the technology to a reporter.He believes the technology will lower costs in addition to leading to better care. 1861

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. government's highway safety agency has decided to open two new investigations into fires involving Hyundai and Kia vehicles after getting complaints of more than 3,100 fires and 103 injuries.The probe comes after an I-Team story in June sparked a car safety watchdog group to formally petition the feds to investigate.The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is now responding nine months later. CINCO RANCH, Texas – Investigators say a 29-year-old man was shot and killed by intruders who broke into his suburban Houston home.The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Brenton Estorffe was killed early Wednesday at his home in Cinco Ranch, a community 26 miles west of Houston.Sheriff Troy Nehls says Estorffe told a 911 operator that someone had broken a window in the back of his house. The man confronted the two intruders and was shot. The intruders then fled."The father woke up and confronted apparently two individuals, at which time there was some gunshots that were fired and the homeowner, a white male, is deceased inside the residence," said Nehls.Nehls says Estorffe didn't appear to be armed. His wife and two young children were not injured."It's sad, sad," said Nehls. "We have a homeowner now here in Fort Bend County who is no longer with us, and the father of two small children. Breaks your heart."Relatives said on social media that Estorffe was an Australian native. No arrests have been made and investigators haven't established a motive."It's a little unusual to have, not saying it doesn't happen but it's a little unusual for guys that are wanting to break into a home to steal a television or something to break into a house at midnight," said Nehls.
