A Norwalk, Ohio man and Sunday school teacher is facing charges after having inappropriate sexual contact with a child in a church basement.Kenneth Rose is charged with gross sexual imposition of a child. He was the children's director at Milan Friends Church in Milan Township and had been volunteering there for six months.Rose is being held without bond while the Erie County Sheriff's Office investigates what exactly went on inside the church and if more than one child was involved. Two alleged incidents were reported by one child who was in his program. The girl said both incidents happened while her parents were in regular church service. One happened on Feb. 25, the other on March 18. "There was inappropriate sexual contact, so there was touching involved," Detective Sergeant Dennis Papineau with the Erie County Sheriff's Department said. He said the young girl went to her father and told him what her Sunday school teacher did to her."There was spanking involved," Detective Sergeant Papineau said. It happened in the church's basement, when no other kids were around."When this actually occurred, they were by themselves."Rose admitted guilt to investigators immediately. "He was cooperative with the investigation."Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland talked to the pastor of the church, Paul Campbell, on the phone. He didn't want to go on camera, but said the church is cooperating with investigators and trying to be as transparent as possible. Pastor Campbell said Rose never should have been with children alone, and they still aren't sure how this happened. Campbell said there were no other incidents reported to them. Rose is not listed as a sex offender and does not have a criminal history. Campbell said they're already talking about what they can do to make sure this never happens again. "This is an active investigation, and if there are any other victims we are asking them to come forward," Detective Sergeant Papineau said. 2084

After being cooped up for months due to COVID-19, Jason Andre is stoked to shred the curl again. This surfer, however, also has concerns about getting back to the beach.“I feel pretty trepidatious about going to any open beaches,” he said. While Andre scouts the best breaks up and down the East Coast, he’s also keeping an eye on coronavirus concerns in his home state of North Carolina.“Things are actually kind of reaching new peaks as far as infection rates and hospitalizations,” he said. “So, it’s a little weird.”Weird and potentially dangerous. With summer here and cities lifting their restrictions, more lifeguards are experiencing more challenges.“We had like 48 water rescues for the weekend,” said Cpt. Tony Wallace of the Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue team.He says strong rip currents have kept his crew busy with rescues and that COVID-19 has changed how his team now handles medical responses.“We have stopped mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,” Wallace said. “So, now we go to a bag valve mask to assist in breathing if need be.”Across the country on the Pacific Coast, lifeguards are working to protect the public and ensure social distancing.“We like to do what we call preventive action work were we direct people to safe areas on the beach before they get into trouble,” said Lt. Claude Panis of the Huntington Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Divison. He says summer is always a challenging time at the beach and that the pandemic has increased the dangers.“I think people have been locked up and they're really itching to get outside,” Panis said. “And of course, the beach is a popular destination.”Panis said when people are in trouble in the ocean the first thing to do is to stay calm and try not to panic.Back on the Carolina Coast, Andre is dealing with challenges in and out of the ocean.“We’ve had a pretty huge influx of Portuguese man-of-war lately which are really dangerous, extremely painful jellys that will sting you,” he said.Andre is looking to stay safe by avoiding marine life and large crowds.“I have a small handful of friends who I will invite to come out on the boat and we will go find a sandbar of own,” he said.Searching for safety by finding a private beach during the pandemic. 2228

Actor Brendan Fraser has accused a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that presents the annual Golden Globe Awards, of groping him at an event in 2003.In a profile in GQ, Fraser recounts an encounter with former HFPA president Philip Berk at a luncheon hosted by the organization at the Beverly Hills Hotel.Fraser alleges Berk grabbed his rear end and, through his pants, touched him in the area between his genitals and his anus."I felt ill. I felt like a little kid," Fraser told GQ. "I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry."After the incident Fraser, best known for his work in the "Mummy" franchise and films like "School Ties," said he became "depressed."A representative for Fraser confirmed his account to CNN and said there was no further comment.Berk, still a member of the HFPA, admitted that he pinched Fraser's buttock at the event in question but said in his interview with GQ he did so in jest."The charge of a sexual innuendo is a total fabrication and a desperate attempt by Fraser to rescucitate (sic) his career," Berk told CNN.In response to questions posed to Berk by GQ, shared with CNN by Berk, he said the alleged encounter "occurred in front of dozens of people" and said he "had two witnesses."Berk did apologize to Fraser for the incident, after prompting from Fraser's then personal publicist."My apology admitted no wrong doing, the usual 'if I've done anything that upset Mr. Fraser it was not intended and I apologize,'" Berk said. The HFPA told CNN in a statement that the GQ article contains "alleged information that the HFPA was previously unaware of" and that they are "investigating further details surrounding the incident.""The HFPA stands firmly against sexual harassment and the type of behavior described in this article," the statement from the HFPA read. "Over the years we've continued a positive working relationship with Brendan, which includes announcing Golden Globe nominees, attending the ceremony and participating in press conferences."Fraser said the incident "made me retreat" and "feel reclusive." He chose not to come forward for a long time. In the aftermath of Hollywood's reckoning with sexual harassment, however, he says he's found his voice. He tells GQ: "Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely."Fraser has in recent years appeared on Showtime's "The Affair" and miniseries "Texas Rising."He will next appear in FX's "Trust."  2587

About 2.5 million more working-age Americans were uninsured last year, even before the coronavirus pandemic struck, according to a government report issued Wednesday. The study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 14.5% of adults ages 18 to 64 were uninsured in 2019, a statistically significant increase from 2018, when 13.3% lacked coverage. The increase in the uninsured rate came even as the economy was chugging along in an extended period of low unemployment. The findings suggest that even during good times, the U.S. was losing ground on coverage gains from the Obama-era health care overhaul.Health insurance coverage has eroded under President Donald Trump, who is still trying to overturn the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare.” By contrast, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden wants to expand the ACA and add a new public plan in a push to eventually cover all Americans. The new numbers come from the CDC’s National Health Interview Survey, which is considered one of the government’s most authoritative reports. Lack of affordable coverage was the top reason given for being uninsured, cited by nearly 3 out of 4 surveyed. In 2018, 26.3 million adults ages 18 to 64 were uninsured. Last year, that number rose to 28.8 million, CDC said. The situation has only worsened since COVID-19 began to spread in the U.S. early this year, forcing a sudden economic shutdown that left millions out of work. How much worse is not yet known, because government surveys like the CDC’s have a significant lag time.Initial estimates from private experts that suggested more than 25 million people could have become uninsured due to pandemic job losses appear to have been too high.More recent estimates suggest there are 5 million to 10 million newly uninsured. In the midst of a pandemic, that would still represent a sharp increase in the number of people who may face problems getting medical attention. Uninsured people often postpone going to see a doctor until their symptoms become severe.Experts say there could be several reasons why coverage losses due to the pandemic have not been as deep as initial feared, including people switching to a spouse’s plan and more people qualifying for Medicaid or for an ACA “special enrollment period.”The Trump administration has resisted calls to fully open the ACA insurance markets during the ongoing public health emergency. The CDC report found that adults who were uninsured last year because coverage was not affordable were more likely to be in poor health, a group that’s at higher risk of serious complications from COVID-19. Uninsured women were more likely to cite affordability problems than men, and those 50 and older were also more likely than the group under 30 to report a financial hardship. 2792
